I know a few ppl that had it done one had her stomach stapled and something went wrong and the staple made her bleed internally and she passed away. Some have success some don't.I am a bigger girl and i think after everything i have read and seen and i have done some long research i will not do it..One girl i know had the gastric bypass and she cant eat anything with out it making her very sick..she has been in the hospital countless times because when she eats she throws up and gets dehydrated..Good luck to you and i suggest you do alot of research. And one other thing is the excess skin.you loose 100 pounds what do you think happens to the extra skin? It hangs..shew..ill stay fat lol..

Agree with "I Know" - I would not do it. Many complications and along with the excess skin (another surgery), you wull always have to monitor what you eat and exercise. Most I know that had it done gained the weight back. It should be a last resort.
If you have not, get a MD check-up and ask to have thyroid checked. Hypothyroidism can cause slow metabolism and weight gain no matter how much you diet or exercise. Also medications can cause weight gain )like blood pressure). Also, many lof fat foods are just as bad as regular since it has more calories, etc..
Good luck and as suggested, do research and get two medica opinions about it. Even after the surgery, each day you wull ahve to be extremely careful what you eat. I know one lady that would be out on a date or friends and have to either explain or make an excuse why she had to eat small portions. ANd after all her hard work (excersing and dieting), she gained it back plus more.

You may also want to check out the Atkins diet (not for sure if correct spelling) but Sharon Osbourne and her family have lost over 20 pounds each on it and it is advertised as more a lifestye change than diet. It is one that has has reccomendations for when you eat out. Of course, she is being paid for being a spokesperson but on daytime interview, she stated she would never have the lap band surgery again becuase she gained weight all back and she has done well in this one.

Weight OSS surgery was a life saver for e. I personally know about 30 people ere in Fentress Co that as had it done and all are doing well. It's been 5 yrs for me. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. My sleep apnea is gone and I'm much healthier. There is a support group at YAI in the library ona Mon night each month but not sure which one. No one I have asked to has regretted it at at. I lost 90 lbs. the skin has not been an issue. I think it is for those who lose maybe 125 r more.

Go for it. Most of us here in Fentress Co had our done at Centennial in Nashville. Dr Hugh Houston did mine. There are also support groups in Cooeville ad Crossville. Good place to go and listen to what others say tat had it and you can ask ten questions.

Just wondering how all these surgeries were paid for. I pay over 200/ month for bcbs insurance and it does not cover any weight loss surgery. what kind of insurance do you all have?

The people that I knew who had it was covered by their insurance because their weight was considered a medical need rather than cosmetic (like a woman getting a breat reduction due to back problems but if considered cosmetic, insurance will not cover). I would check with isurance company. I knw that many dentist and plastic surgeons have financing companies like CareCredit for patiens that cannot afford the entire cost upsfront but I do not know offhand about weight loss.
Again, i believe it should be a last option but good to know there is a local support group which can prob offer more suggestions for the orginal poster.

Aa with any MD or porcedure, do research and check with the medical board to ensure the MD's license has no issues.

I have bcbs. They have different tiered plans. Google bmi calculator and enter your ht and wt. my ins covered if you were a 40 or above. Sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol issues also help get it approved as well.

I know many people who have used Sensa (tasteless powder sprinkle on food) that has helped them lose weight. It has no side effects as other weight loss and makes you fell fuller so eat less. It is over-the-counter and around thirty dollars. Only drawback is have to use it on every meal or snack,

Depends on how much weight you need to lose My brother and I both had it done, his was sept 2009, mine was may 2010. He has lost 360pounds and I have lost 240 pounds. You do have to watch closely, there is never a day either one of us have had regrets, we both would do it again in a heart beat, he had all the health problems I got mine done before they hit, he has had 2 complications with his, I have had none. I had United Health Care when mine was done with the state of tennessee. Check out New life Biatric on the web, or Dr. Stephen Boyce on the internet he is in knoxville. Or if you would like to chat about it sometime let me know, my email is [email protected]
