This is very sad. How could someone just abandon another human being like that.

This label that you put on this young woman is offensive. The developmentally disabled do not like being referred to as "Retarded". It is offensive to them. Please think before you post something like this again. And I hope she is identified very soon.

If you were trying to get attention to this situation, how would you have written the heading?

Sorry to upset you Melissa, but it looks like this post did draw attention. I'm not sure how it could have been worded differently and still have gotten the same result!!!

Thanks for the update! How can any mom do that to their child? And what is worse, DA in TN is saying she did not break any laws since physically her daughter is over 18 (but mentally, the mond of a 2 yr old). I hope they can charge her with something in her legal state of Illinois.
She may get away with it now, but that evil witch of a mother will answer to God for her evil deeds! I know as a nurse how difficult and strssful it is to deal with special needs individuals but she could have found a better solution than just leaving her daughter at a bar!

I just wonder if the mom was planning on collecting her daughter's monthly disabilty checks if she was getting them?

Im sorry but I have worked in a field where I have helped individuals who have these sorts of "issues" as this young woman has been dealing with her whole life. At this point even a person such as me, who is educated in this area, hasn't a clue as to how and refer to this kind if person. First, it's politically incorrect to called people retarded, then months later, retarded is the word that is supposed to be used and developmentally delayed is innappropriate. As a person with depression, a mental illness, we cannot classify people who are "retarded" or "DD" in this same category because you are clumping people with completely different issues. So, first inask you to go around and ask all of the "developmentally delayed" human what they wish to be defined as? I am sure you will get millions of different answers. Also, as a person with extreme knowledge in this field, I am really getting sick and tired of trying to keep up with the new terminology that comes out monthy on how we should define these individuals. If we don't call their "developmental" problems something, then how will we know what kind of person we are dealing with in order to help them. Get over your supposed political correctness issues because either no matter what terminology you use, someone will be offended!

I reposted because of stupid grammar errors. I'm using my smartphone ( is it okay to call it "smart" or is that offensive to the other phones?)

I am glad the woman was found and I do hope that she will be taken care of properly.

As a nurse. I completely agree with you that it is so tough to keep up with the changing of politically correct terms.
In this case, the orgianl poster did not intent the word as an insult. Unfortunately, the term "retarded" is used frequently as an insult and many people are sensitive to the term (which myself I do not like because I have heard it used more as an insult).

In these times, seems no matter what you say it will offend someone. For me, I just try to look at how it is intended.

Thank goodness they found out who the girl was and I pray she is in a better environment than with her evil mother who abandoned her.
