Parents PLEASE control your Topix-Teens!

OK, I have to say this.... I know it's spring break and your kids are bored, but please either block them from Topix or monitor their posts. They are listing kids' names and asking others to rate their physical appearance, using crude language, and frankly making you look like pretty much absent parents.
It's getting out of control.
Some of the kids are forgetting to change the user-name when they post, so we know whose kids they are. Please have a talk with your child and enforce some type of guidance.
From the comments we are seeing, I hate to think what other things they are getting into on the internet and elsewhere.
You are responsible for the actions of your minor children.

You are sooooooo right!!! I blocked my computer this week while I was at work and did not unblock it until I was ready to sit here in the living room where the computer is located.

I have parental controls and I use them constantly.

I was made aware of a myspace page today. On this page the person was taking the default pictures of students at YAI...putting them on their page, and then making some terrible comments about them.

I can just imagine what goes on while these teens are texting on phones all the time. It's insane!

Well, I guess it's up to your parents to tell you what you're supposed to do. But since you are asking, go to the "here's the Scoop from YAI" thread and read the comment by "I wouldnt go back" (#55).
This kid is awesome, literate, hard-working, and self-motivated. You may be just as great, and we'd love to see that. Read what alternatives can really help you succeed in school and in life.

This is sooooo funny!!!! You are asking parents to control their teens on topix when they cannot even control themselves on topix. The best way to control your children/teens is to set a good example. If you don't want your teens bashing others then don't bash others in front of them. If you don't want your teen using bad language then don't use bad language in their presents. There are over 600 threads on topix and I bet less than 1% of them were started by teens. All the threads about our sheriff, County Mayor AND School Teachers (except JT Money)were started by adults. Teens are just following the example set by adults. So next time anyone thinks about bashing, cursing or lying on topix, Remember a child may follow your example.

That's another topic, Chocolate Lover. Many of us do not bash, curse, or gossip on Topix. Such behsvior is inappropriate for anyone. Yet no one except maybe the editors will discipline the adults here.
The topic of this thread is an appeal to parents to monitor their children's posts. They are responsible for their children.

Very good point but the parents should do all they can to control what their kids and teens do and say even though the parents are also not perfect.But do not get me wrong,I totally agree with you and parents need to lead by example.

Parents do need to watch what their kids are doing, but they don't need to go overboard. Telling them that they cant post rude or inappropriate material is fine, although it may not work. But completely banning them from a website that has no true age limit may be too drastic.

My daughter is always telling me that I should not be on topix beacuse people on just on there gossiping and causing trouble. She will not post on topix because she says no one will listen to logic they just believe what they want to believe.

I am also a fan on parental controls on the computer.Limiting websites is a good start.Parents are to be in control as best as they can for their kids safety and moral upbringing.Can a parent totally stop their children from getting on certain websites?No!But we can make it very hard.One day you will be glad you did.Just my opinion.I even have some restrictions when my adult kids use my computer.

It's great that the monitor deleted that thread about "Who is the hottest 8th Grade Boy," but the thread "Who is the Hottest 8th Grade Girl" is still active on Topix, and names are being given.I'm not for censorship, but minors' names should not be given on here.
