so many stories from around here..it's crazy & now i cant stop looking this stuff up.
I live down the road from the Hullett house and today we talked about it in history class. 3 of my friends went in the house because one of their fathers knew the owner & they said when they went in the basement they only had a weird feeling. However they were quite young so im not sure if they would have really noticed anything. At gurnsey nothing really happened to me but there were some idiot kids there that kept trying to scare us. We went back during the day & were just looking around (we fixed a few headstones too) and all of a sudden we heard almost folk like music coming from the woods.. explain that one.

Great post Derbonic... Do you (or does anyone else on here) know how exactly to get to the Dewittville poorhouse/asylum cemetery (or can you describe where it is)? It's not clear to me whether it's different from the cemetery that's right off Meadows Road, but I think it is (that there was a separate cemetery just for the old asylum/poorhouse).

I assume it would be somewhere on the farm that's now there... anybody? Thanks.

It was just down past the cemetery on the same side of the road. Long driveway used to lead back to the main house. It's all gone now. I think the farmers use the driveway to access their bunk silo. It's a shame really

The best way is to take Frew-Run Rd. to where Gurnsey Hollow Rd. comes out turn right on Gurnsey.it's maybe 3/4 mile on the right in an s curve. Three boulders mark the driveway.

You really can't miss the entrance. I just went there for the first time today and it is on the left side of the road (coming from Frew-Run) and those three boulders are right near the road. It is a great place to go to. I took about forty pictures and there was something strange in about two thirds of them.
We spent about an hour marching around the woods in back of the cemetery looking for an old house or foundation and couldn't find a thing. Someone had marked a path with a string and it went out into the woods and ended at nothing. A little disappointing. The awesome pictures made up for it though.

I live in lower town Lockport, and there's an older house, a mansion actually, I walked by at night last year, when I seen an older man in a suit looking like a butler looking out, I stopped from outside the old black Gothic gate that surrounds like mad lawn and it was from like 100 ft away, I looked a min later and he was gone. Scary stuff. he didn't hand out candy on Halloween either. Sorry kids!

have any of you heard anything about the "Old County Farm" or also referred to as the Insane Asylum located in DeWittville N.Y. I used to go there all the time as a child ( 1980 or so ) and there was always lots of talk about its "Hauntedness." And it was a very spooky place. It was a complex of about 15 building connected by a simple labyrinth of narrow paved roads. The buildings ranged from completely collapsed to having three accessible stories ( if you where very careful.) everything was all over grown and sight lines where very limited.
If you headed away from the lake at the four corners of DeWittville you will pass a cemetery on your right, then a small field. After the field there was a road with Huge Willow(?) trees on either side leading about 1/4 mile back. The first thing you encountered was a half collapsed bridge crossing a creek. Under the bridge was a killer rope swing. Immediately down stream from the bridge was a large "pond" like spot that was very deep. In the bottom of this "pond" was a old car. My brother and friends would often stare and stare at that car and we were all sure that there was someone in the drivers seat. None of us had the balls to swim down and look. As a matter of fact we didn't even swim there because we were too scared. Would have made a great swimming hole though. After the bridge the road would fork 3 ways into the narrow roads that meandered around the property. It may have covered 10 acre's but things sometimes seem bigger to children. I was only 7 or 8. The buildings themselves were in super bad shape. Even the ones still standing. Dark empty windows looking down at you through maybe 10 years of overgrowth. Inside our favorite place was a pipe sticking out of the upstairs floor that constantly spewed excellent cold drinking water. I never saw anything supernatural myself, nor did anyone I was with.
I went back again when I was maybe 18 and all the buildings had been removed , but we did find a basement with two opening in the middle of its roof. My friends and I lowered each other down in to find some animal skeletons and not much else. What was wicked strange was there didn't seem to have EVER been a stair case or other entrance into this basement we almost over looked.
Now its not there at all. Someone has built something over top of it all.

Check out this link for a NYT article of a warden who was stabbed at the Asylum by a patient. This was in 1882, so this place could definitely have some paranormal activity.
If anyone has been there or has anything to add. Please do.
wow, i went to day camp at the ymca in the early 80s,it was camp chau-tau. the counselors took all us kids there one day.they told us it was an old hospital, and a nurse had poisoned all the patients with the red berries that grew all around the place, and that it was now haunted. when we walked past the bridge up the road and between the buildings, camp counselors who were already hidden in the building threw smoke bombs out to scare the kids.when i got older i remembered this place,i knew the psycho nurse story was made up to scare us,but i always wondered where it was.none of my friends in the bemus or jamestown area knew where it was i was describing.got chills reading your description of it.it sure answered a question ive had burning in my mind for 20+ years. thanks

Gravity Hill in Chautaua County is located on Rt. 83 in Arkwright. If your coming from the Dunkirk Vicinity, you would take Rt 60 to Rt 83 and make a Left. At the corner of Miller Rd and 83 there is a cemetary, if you turn you car around so the cemetary is on your right and put your car in neutral. The car will go uphill instead of rolling back down. It's kinda spooky, I'm from the area and have been there many many time
