Teddy, I respect your insight and opinions, you know that. But I do not pretend that I don't live in a country that has a 2 party system. I want my country to evolve past the 2 party system that I believe has done great harm.<quoted text>
Totally agree with you in principle.
But at the same time, it is just plain childishly foolish and delusional of you to pretend that you live in a country that does not have a two-party system, and that you can "not vote" for one or the other of them on the first party in November.
Incontrovertible fact: When an incumbent POTUS is running, your vote not cast at all, or your vote wasted on a 3rd Party candidate that cannot win, is a vote FOR the incumbent.
If you do not vote for Romney, you will have voted for Obama - no matter how hard you try to rationalize otherwise.
Sorry, mate - real life is far from ideal. This is one of those times.
By all means - stick to your guns and keep railing against the corrupt Washington political classes OF BOTH MAJOR PARTIES - I am totally with you.
But on that first Tuesday in next November, hold your nose and pull the lever for Romney - any other course is foolish and irresponsible. It's a secret ballot - no one else needs to know you did the least-worst thing.
If I lived in a swing state, I certainly would hold my nose, vote for Romney, and hope for the best. But I live in New York. Obama is going to win NY. And if he doesn't win NY big, he will lose overall in a landslide.
I have to vote for a 3rd party - if only to show the nation that there is one more of us out there that doesn't still buy into the false left/right paradigm.
I fully recognize how dangerous a 2nd Obama term would be. I have been making preparations for a complete breakdown of this country for the last 3 years. I'm not going to get into specifics, but you know what I mean & you probably have been too.
But I can't in good conscience vote for Romney if I don't have to. Again, Obama is going to win my (welfare/nanny) state. I think I need to vote for a patriot instead, even one that won't "win."
