Is it true that the city power plant has not produced power in 4 months? And they have not laid anyone off?

I can't answer that question...but I think typically the BPU does not produce any electricity during the spring and summer months. And of the electricity provided by the BPU, 80-90% of it is purchased by the BPU from Niagara Mohawk.

You apparently must buy their propaganda hook, line, and sinker. The facts I provided have been stated repeatedly over the radio by people who really know what's going on.

Since you claim I don't know what I'm talking about, answer me these questions:

Of all the electricity provided to its customers, how much of that power does the BPU produce on its own? Also, why does the BPU shut down, as far as electricity goes, during the spring and summer months?

they shut down in the summer for turbine rebuilds. we do not need the power. however if we dont have a power plant our rates will jump really high. ask someone who lives just outside of jamestown that uses national grid. they pay a lot more than we do.

The bpu is a lot less then national grid. the only complaints I have are the fact that the bills are almost impossible to understand. Also, fair customer service at best. If you drive down steel street in the middle of day. You can see about a dozen guys working in the garages, "looking busy". Seems like most of the workers are italins, probably all family. So of course they look out for themselves and make sure they get the hours and pay they want.

The guys you see working in the garages are indeed the DPW mechanics... I think you're thinking about the garages across the street from the plant as you can not see any of the BPU garages from the street.

All of BPU meter readings are done from their trucks, electronically. They do not need to get out and physically read them. The only time that they read the meter is when they turn your electric back on to make sure that no one is stealing power or tampering with their equipment. You are a moron Bennett, and that is why you will not have a good job, like they offer to hardworking people at BPU!

You got that right brother. I pay any where from 85 to 125 a month and I watch things. I'd love to be on city electric.

If want to have city electric and the low rates move into the city. Many nice places available on 2nd street, Water street, Barrows, Six and Seventh... well you get the idea. Sometimes I wonder if the cheap power is worth living in the city. Stay where you are and suck it up. At least if you live out of the city you don't have to lock yourself inside.

Just a quick question? Y is it that u don't have a late night driver who goes around and turns ppls electric back on like national fuel does? Yea it sucks to have our electric shut off but sometimes we r just trying to survive and not always have enough money in this day and age to pay everything. So when bpu comes and turns us off we struggle during the day to come up and finally pay it the same day and what do we get? 24hrs. Really? We did our part and yet our familys and children have to suffer through frezzing nights and can't give our children breathing treatments cause apperently ur customers r not ur #1 priority. Iv donated my time time and money to help with the neighboring fund yet when my electric gets shut off noone cares. Tht money goes to ppl with sometype of handicap to pay there bill and we go without. Thts totally unfair. I will no longer donate anything. U should take a step up and let our electric get turned on the day we pay it. Remember customers come first and so is the reputaion of bpu. So plz help those with getting a driver for nights so our children don't have to freeze.

Are you kidding?? There is no other electric company!! They have no reason for customer service, and bottom line you have a bill you pay it. It must have been past due for a few months to get shut off. And with the weather your kids were freezing?? REALLY ???

Bottom line is they done really care. I was in there paying my bill one day and a guy was asking to get his electric turned on cause he didn't get paid till the end of the week. The woman actually told him "you get paid at the end of the week? then you get your electric turned back on at the end of the week". They could care less that it was a elderly gentlemen and I am sure he was on a fixed income. Saw the guys obituary a few weeks after this.
