Who is next in line to be Jamestown's Police Chief? From what I understand it is an appointed job.

Should be Barry Swanson he is pretty high on the Food chain but it could come from a different agency such as rater did.

Barry Swanson would be a good choice. The possibility of a merger might discourage some highly qualified outsiders from pursuing the job. I'm not saying that I think the merger will happen tomorrow but if I think I'm qualified to be chief I certainly wouldn't leave a good job to take a job where I might be eliminated due to a merger. I'd look for another more secure chief position.

Samuelson? How'd his name even come up? He's still a kid, although a very responsible and fair person. Abbott or Swanson all day.

IMO, Swanson is too milk toast for the job.
Great guy though.

I say Swanson for sure.. Nice guy i remember when he was just a street cop many years ago... Samuelson wouldnt be a bad choice though, although i believe the job gets filled by someone not named on here....

Swanson has admitted that his heart and sole is with Jamestown Police, thats why he where he's at. He doesn't believe in this consolidation crap, even though he has to play the game, and tell those what they want to hear. He continue being that stand up guy, fighting for his officers. Even though he lacks in college education such as Samuelson and Isaacson, even they understand he deserves the position

Let's be real.... exactly. Swanson has pulled a wool over your eyes. Yea he may kiss the public's ass but try being on the inside. I have heard too many stories. Do you really want someone running a police department that isnt qualified? Let's be real

Honestly describe qualified? Maybe he lacks the college education like the last poster said? I don't know that, but to me you can only learn so much in college. Just like the business I'm in hands on is the best experience not necessarily the book smarts.Like I said Isaacson,Samuelson,Swanson,Abb ott, etc. there are people up there that can fill the position if they chose the internal route.

I believe Abbott and Isaacson are the only ones that live in J-Town. I think the chief has to be someone that lives here.

Letsbe real, If Swansons so committed to the police department then why doesn't he live around here. Im pretty sure he lives out of town. How can one say they are committed to a town when they don't want to live where they work kids attend school etc. Don't you people get it? It's about the power and the title thats it.

Samuelson? The biggest abuser of overtime in the city? pfft.. I just hope Sammy don't bring in another personal friend to be chief that just wants to pad his retirement and then leave. That's all Rater did. Oh... he also helped tear the dept apart with his lack of management.

Yeah that is a good point... I thought there was a rule where you have to live in the city you work? I remember when R.P. became an officer he was with ellicott because that was where he lived? They must have lifted that rule because he is J.P.D. now... I know that Isaacson lives in town he has a child in the same grade as mine. And Abbott serves on the city council or something like that.

Lee Davies, who was a captain and just retired, may be a good choice too.
