I hope the trooper gets charged. im sorry but thats just crazy. i speed all the time on the opposite side of the highway and they never come after me. they just waste time trying to turn around and get someone on the other side. im praying for this family ..im sure it has to be hard.

I can't believe people are being so ugly towards this trooper, his job is to get speeders under control. If he was going down the highway and the lights were green, how in the heck could he be faulted for this accident. I am so sorry that 2 lives have been taken, but from everything that I have heard the trooper did nothing wrong, his lights were flashing! If people didn't SPEED then there wouldn't have been a need for the trooper to turn around and go after them, and the accident would not have happened, so the speeding car is at fault!! If the Lord need these 2 folks to come home, then something else would have happened! At the time God created us, he also gave us a death date!

Horrible situation! This is something that this trooper will have to live with for the rest of his life. For cops, its damn if you do, damn if you dont! They are in an extremely tough situation. When you're in this type of situation first you're angry, then you look for blame. Its only natural for some of us. I'm sure that I would blame too, but in the same sense, this trooper didn't wake up that morning and say Oh well, I think that I'll go out today on the job and kill a grandmother and her grandchildren, and others with her.

Furthermore, I hope that someone got the tag number of whoever was doing 80 down the highway! This person is the one that needs to be charged. If it wasn't for them the trooper wouldn't have had to go after this person, and this wouldn't have happened. So if you want to blame, blame the idiot that was speeding. There's no justification for doing 80 down the highway!

I agree with you! I hope that someone got the tag number of the speeding car! 80 miles per hour, come on! Thats ridiculous! This trooper has to live with this for the rest of his life! People dont understand what he must be going thru right now. He didnt want this to happen! This person that was speeding should be found and charged with causing this wreck and the death of these people!

Our Heart goes out to the Family's involved. I am so sorry for your loss. I would like to see this topic stay civil for the People who did lose loved ones. There is another topic on this where you can play the blame game.

Sad thing but I don't see how the family can say he could have avoided it when she's the one that turned in front of him, smells like a set up for a lawsuit to me the bodies aren't even cold yet and they're already thinking if they can get $ out of it. Just hate to see this happen to a lady that seems was a very nice person and a child.

blah blah blah you just want the trooper charged because you admit you're a speeder and you refuse to see it's people like you that CAUSE deaths. Here's the facts of the story pinnacle woman (you're no lady) the trooper had his lights on, his traffic light was GREEN, she turned in FRONT of him there's nothing to charge him with. How about we mourn the deaths and quit looking for ways to strike out at law officers...

Two people dead to catch a speeder? Gimme a break. Too many people are killed by cops chasing people. I fully support my police community, but changes have to be made to policy. So the patrol lost giving one ticket...the trade off - two people dead. How can you ever possibly justify that? Let's do mourn the deaths, but lets prevent this from ever happening again. BTW...No one has said he had his sirens on, at least as of last night. And just because he is chasing someone does not mean that he should not be carefu. What does a green light mean? Only that you may be kileed having the right of way.

Glad to hear some of what really happened is coming out. What they first reported was he was trying to turn around @ River Rd ...and it's obvious he wasn't or that he couldn't ....how many time's have you done a U-Turn @ 80+ mph .....I think it's obvious the trooper certainly didn't want or mean for this to happen but I think it's also obvious that someone wasn't telling the complete story about the wreck in the beginning......Either way I hope ALL the families affected by this tragedy finds peace & comfort with time .......

My thoughts and prayers are with ALL the families involved. To some comments on here that pretty much say that the trooper should have let the speeder go, that is their job is to catch speeding vehicles regardless what side of the road they are on. However, he is supposed to make sure it is clear before he goes. I am not going to point fingers or blame b/c my husband is a law officer and I know what they have to do. I just pray that all the families involved can get the comfort they need. This is a terrible situation.

the person was doing 80, going the opposite direction. he had to go quite a ways to turn around. the trooper i'm sure is not going to just go 80 mph himself to try to catch up to this speeder that is now a mile or more ahead of him. who knows where the speeder went, they could have exited off before he ever reached them. it was totally uncalled for. radio to your fellow troopers you have spotted a speeder, you don't know if you'll be able to catch up to them. he may have had his lights on, but with the sun shining during the day they are only going to do so much good, no one knows if he had the sirens on. they both had the green light. i'm sure she had no idea he was running upwards of 130 mph (thought that will never be admitted) to catch a car God only knows where it had gotten to by that time. he should have used caution approaching that intersection not knowing if something like this could have happened. i don't care how many lights, sirens, flashers, anything, you have and what type of job you're in (law, fire, etc.) you should always proceed with caution at an intersection - green light or not. i hate to think what would have happened if his light was red. i feel so sorry for these families, their entire lives changed by someone's hell bent attitude on catching a speeder...thoughts and prayers to those lost and their families dealing with this tragedy.

It is absolutely ridiculous that law enforcement chases speeders. Why not radio ahead and catch him on down the road, or get a plate number and then handle it. Now 2 people are dead for what? someone speeding?? They need to come up with another system for speeders. I hope the troopers happy.

InNC, If you were hit by a speeding car that a Trooper let pass by, I bet you would be first in-line complaining that the Troopers could have/should have done something to prevent it.

"Hell bent attitude on catching a speeder"???? How about hell bent to stop a speeder before he/she kills someone else? How about hell/bent on stopping the driver of the speeding car to find out the person was running from the law for some other crime.

You have no idea of what you speak. But that has never stopped your kind.

my kind is sympathetic to the families that have lost loved ones in this accident. i would not blame the police or troopers for a speeder hitting me. it would be the speeders fault. so don't talk about "my kind"...let's see how your kind is when a trooper or cop hits your loved ones in a situation like this and see who you are blaming. not to mention they said the highway was pretty deserted that day so who was that speeder going to kill...apparently no one since we didn't hear of another wreck caused by this speeder...so don't say i don't know what i speak.
