What a great spot! We can look out on the nice view and realize that this was the spot where Long Island's long-term vision for growth and success was sacrificed. We can sit on the spot where our energy future was negotiated away by Dumbocrats, environmentalists, and scaredy cats. I mean we could do that, except for the fact that we can't afford to drive there with $4-a-gallon gas. Americans better get their heads out of their *##@& and look at the practical alternatives out of this mess or our way of life is something we're going to have to leave behind. And idiots like Al Gore and Obama telling us that within 10 years we'll have switched to 'alternative energy' are doing the public a disservice. That cannot and will not happen. Let's hope the public wakes us and votes for a candidate who at least has a realistic handle on the problem.

Let me translate this newsday mombo jumbo "Through dizzyingly complex negotiations among KeySpan, the Town of Riverhead, the state and a long list of environmental groups, the land became state property five years ago." Means the Political whores and enviromental extortionists stole this property from the Lilco rate payers ie. Long Island citizens. Arrest and inprision for life all these enviro-extortionists who shake down the people like they did here and at the Oak Beach in rip off as well. Newsday you suck!

"complex negotiations among KeySpan, the Town of Riverhead, the state and a long list of environmental groups",
Keyspan I can see (ties to the old LILCO), Riverhead I can see (in their jurisdiction), the state I can see somewhat (not too clear on this though) but what claims to the land did all these environmental groups have? How do they get to dictate anything about how the land owned by Keyspan (formerly owned by LILCO and/or it's ratepayers)?

it would be great to make the shoreham nuclear plant land into a park. it was irresponsibly built, closed down because of obvious dangers; a lack of evacuation routes(you cannot get off long island on a sunday night, let alone a disaster time)and then the cost was passed on to the tax payer. it is only fair to turn this into a park for the community to enjoy. that would be lovely indeed

fantastic: This article is not about the Shoreham property. Lilco had purchased other properties where they wanted to build more nike plants after Shoreham was built. Ince Shoreham was shut down those plans were scrapped. This parcel is in Riverhead and has no (or very few) structures on it as opposed to Shoreham which still has the reactor and containment vessel on it.

I think if Broadwater was approved, the Shoreham property was going to be a hookup point for a pipe to the platform, but who knows now.
