I have always enjoyed every one of Sylvia Carter's articles and also take something I have learned from each one. This one about SPAT - my husband was one of the original Spatsters a few years back -it is a wonderful program. I hope that her article encourages more people to become shellfish farmers.

Sounds cruel to me, like dunking a live lobster in boiling water

Kim is a treasure. He has inspired many oyster farmers to improve our bays and raise a different type of crop. This living monument is a tribute to Kim's dedication to developing a strain of oysters that will endure for a long, long time. Where would SPAT be without him.

I see no reason why there should not be any oyster farms. After all,you got clams, scallops, mussels and blue claw crab and whatever else.
