I think the word defines a type of person, rather than a persons color. There are people who act in such a way that makes that word come to mind.

I don't use it and don't like to hear it, but I think that if anyone is allowed to use it, then everyone should be allowed to use it.

i started this poll cause it is useless to talk about equality and good relations with all races until issues like this is resolved. as long as there are voices like whoopi saying "its ok for a black person to say it but don't want to hear it from white people" many people will not reconcile their own hatred. they feel justified. as long as there is any double meanings depending one the color of the person the utterence comes from, the notion of "race relations" is another oxymoron.
