A Palatka man died after he apparently ran a red light into the path of a tractor-trailer, when ended up overturning onto the man's car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said 33-year-old Uveekie Fields died after his car was struck by a big rig before dawn Saturday at the intersection of state Road 19 and St. Johns Avenue.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, John Raymond, 59, of Mount Dora, told investigators that Fields drove into his path.

After the collision, Fields' car hit a concrete pole, then the trailer of the rig overturned onto it. Fields was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said no charges were expected.

Sad. To think that he could have been alive today had he stopped for the light. I know I'll run one here and there, and if I meet my fate by doing that, you all be sure to call me out on that, alright?

Please do.

Even if it's not my fault that I got killed, make fun of me.

I mean, what's the difference between life and death?--I'm not going to be here to laugh with you.

If I ever do something like that, feel free to rip me apart on here. I feel for the man's family though. Losing someone in that fashion must be difficult.

Yet another one my wife worked. Every area that FHP covers out of the Jacksonville office had a fatality that night. She was working Palatka and was the last one to get a Signal 7 (fatality).

I can just imagine it is hard to have to deal with that especially if there is a child involved.

Reminds me of Wylie Cayote on Bugs Bunny Road Runner show. Just roll him up in a tube and shoot it into outerspace.

How can any of you speak of the loss of a life so casually? This man was a human being regardless of any unwise decisions he might have made. He had a wife, children, family, and friends...all of whom could be reading this as I just did. You are not hurting the person you accuse of having poor judgment...you are pouring salt in the wounds of those who love him! That old saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all," makes a lot of sense. I pity all of you who are being so callous and nonchalant! Your lives are undoubtedly lacking a lot if you can't feel compassion for an other human being. I hope you never have to be in the position this man's family is in right now and feel their pain....and the added pain caused by people like yourselves!

As Joseph Stalin once said, "One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is just a statistic." When you follow the news as much as we do, you see this over and over and over again. This person has become just a statistic.

for the semi to be going fast enough to be turned over when the guys vehicle hit it, the light had to have been red for quite some time before he ran it. this doesnt sound like an oops..this sounds like idiotcide.
