Faster to drive through JAX on I-95 or to take 9A eastside?

I am in the Savannah GA area planning a trip down to Miami this week, and I was wondering whether it is faster to drive through Jacksonville on I-95 south, or to bypass the city by taking 9A around the east side of the city. I believe that 9A is now up to freeway standards all the way around, although it does add 2 or 3 miles to the trip. But taking into account traffic, speed limits, and whatever else, which route would be quicker? I know that the I-95/I-10 interchange has been chaotic for at least ten years now, and I am wondering if it will ever be fixed. I remember frequent backups there when I've gone through Jacksonville in the past. I will be travelling on a weekday morning, so let me know which way is faster. THanks!

Between 7 and 9am take 9a.
Any other time 95 is pretty smooth.

A little bit of construction south of University...not much. Take 9A because you go over a beautiful bridge, The Dames Point.

The bridge has got to be one of the three top beauties of the United States. Finny how all we hear about is the Golden Gate bridge, or the bridges of NYC. I believe the Dames Point bridge is absolutely breathtaking, especially as it first comes in to view as you drive up 9A.

It all depends on what time of day you pass through our lovely city and if you plan to stop. Like most cities if you come through between 7:00am and 8:30am or 4:00pm and 6:00pm then 9A would be your best bet. Also if you plan on stopping for any reason, gas, food, etc… then take 9A, period. Otherwise 95 is not that bad choice, and like any other bypass to shortest distance between two points id the straighter of the two lines. The I-95/I-10 interchange is still under construction however the work is about 75% to 85% complete and the backups during non rush hour time are vitally nonexistent.
Have a safe trip.

Sinister, Selecia, Scooter and Logic are all correct.
If its speed you want, I95 is the fastest but ONLY if there are no backup’s when construction is going on at the I-95 at I-10 interchange.(Not bad during the middle of the day)
There WILL be around a 1/2 mile backup with morning and afternoon drive time traffic on I95 but it's not too bad.
9A won’t have a back-up unless there is an auto accident or something going on with the Dames Point Bridge.
The Dames Point Bridge is a neat bridge to drive over and you get an awesome view. The I-95 route is scenic too as you go over the St. Johns River.
The Florida Dept. of Trans has real-time road messages on I95 that may give you a heads-up with traffic and you can also call 511 on your cell for traffic info before you have to make a decision of what route to take( I never have tried that ).
It’s a coin toss.

Funny....Hey is right.
Traffic in Miami trumps everything.
Jax's worse traffic is better than Miami's any daylight traffic.
