Can someone tell me about the beach. It is a good place to travel or live?

It's a lovely place to live; a wonderful coastal community with a truly awesome beach and a neighborhood feel.

The beach here is bikeable, surfable, nap-able. Boogie boarding, sandcastling, read-able. People here love the beach and the community.

There are many unique shops and restaurants. It's also a great place to visit but it's not totally touristy like a Fr. Lauderdale. There are many accomodatons in Jacksonville Beach. In Atlantic Beach (the best beach area in my opinon) you can choose One Ocean for luxurious or SeaHorse Inn for basic. Both are oceanfront. One Ocean is in Atlantic Beach and SeaHorse Inn is right across the street in Neptune Beach.

Are you thinking of visiting or relocation?

We were going to come down this summer and see if it is a place where we would like to relocate. where would you recommend that someone stay, eat, or go that has never been to Jacksonville Beach? Is there a lot of crime there. I wasn't sure from reading a lotof the comments.

There are many newer hotels in Jax Beach...like Fairfield Inns, etc, which give you access to the beach. In my personal opinion, Atlantic Beach is the best of the beaches but all of the true beach communities (AB, Neptune Beach, Jax Beach) have strong community spirit and pride. It's a small town kind of place. Yes, there probably is more crime in Jax Beach b/c of the numbers of bars and restaurants, etc. there and I'd say AB is the "safest" b/c it's more residential, etc. You'll have to see for yourself when you come and drive around. Jax Beach has improved much in the past ten years and it's not that I wouldn't live there. I just live in AB so it's my first choice! Why don't you look at some travel sites for places for JB and post back and I'll tell you what I think? in AB One Ocean is top shelf (and pricey) and that's the best of the beach. Across the street is Sea Horse and it's a fine, older, clean motel at a good price (in a good neighborhood location) that is oceanfront in Neptune Beach - my parents stayed there many times for the good location and proximity to us.

We love living here and came from MIchigan.

What about Comfort Inn and Quality Inn & Suites? What made you move from Michigan to Florida, other than the weather? We have never been to Jax Beach. We normally go to Daytonna Beach, Myrtle Beach, adn last year we went to Ft. Lauderdale. The people were really rude in Ft. Lauderdale.

We came to Jacksonville for a business opportunity. I was determined to live near the beach. This area is far less touristy than a Daytona or Ft Lauderdale. So it's less 'schlocky' than those areas and has the appearance of a community rather than a Spring Break destination, although we do have our share of visitors and we love them! It's just a different ambiance.
I would think Comfort or Quality Inn & Suites are fine and all within the same price point. Since there are several newer properties within that range, I'd check on the years they were built and their locations within Jax Beach and choose accordingly. Once you arrive and drive around you'll be able to pick out the differences of the communities although they are pretty much run together and comprise what is known (and loved) as The Beaches. The local semi-weekly paper called The Beaches Leader is our paper of record for the community and you can go to its website and get a feel for our area too.Do you have work lined up?

No work lined up yet. We figured that Jacksonville Beach, would be a place that you could be near the beach and work in the city for good pay. I have alway wanted to live near the beach also.

What is the best time of year to come. What do they do for July 4th on the beach? Any suggestion on my see or must eat places? I appeciate you taking the time to fill me in on all the info in the area. What would you say is the best hotel in the area, which one would you stay in knowing what you know from living there.
