Has anyone paid any attention to the way Med-
center EMS and Gibson county EMS are bashing the private ambulance services in west tn? Med-Center is using the excuse that they are the "county" ambulance service. They are a private company tnemselves who just happens to have a cointract for the 911 calls only, NOT the non emergency calls. Gibson county jumped on the bandwagon because they cant do it themselves. Truth is the private companies are better organized, better trained, and better qualified than the county services. Just ask any patient that has ever been transported by Med-Center or Gibson County. The Gibson county mayor tim witherspoon is an idiot for making the comments he did on wbbj. I am ashamed that i am from gibson county. He alleged that Gibson county ambulance was paid for by Gibson county taxes. Thats total BS. just ask anyone thats ever gotten a bill from gibson county shambulance service. I have held my tongue because of my position with local government, but I am ashamed of the way our county has joined the bandwagon with the big coporation trying to oust the private companies owned by the little guy. I will definately remember how tim witherspoon made us look like idiots when it comes time to re-elect him.

It is absolutely ridiculous that people can't choose who they want to transport them. The emergency services are for emergencies, and cannot guarantee the patients needing non-emergency transport can get to where they need to go on time. Why not let these private ambulance services do that???

It's all about the almighty dollar. Bottom line.

Jackson Madison County General Hospital will do everything they can to prevent a non emergency ambulance service from ever becoming a reality and they have most of the city and county commissioners on there side by the use of "PERKS". This is exactly how they got the ambulance service to start with by providing a few perks to make everything go to there way to three county commissioners, which I call The Three Stooges. Most people know who I'm talking about.

The problem is this...patient care is no longer priority but it's the almighty dollar. I work 911 and I know how hectic it can be to try and guarantee a dr appt will be made on time. I have heard the "other" private service called "granny shufflers" and maybe they are but if it was my mom I would want her to be treated as important as that car wreck on the interstate. That is why private services are justified. Oh yeah I don't hear WTH calling themselves "private". Just leave the non 911 services alone and worry about the call volume you cannot handle now. What happened to patient care and patient rights? Oh yeah that's right neither matter as long as the monopoly makes the rich man even richer.

Our country is not screwed up. I guess you would prefer communism? Name a system that works better. It's all about competition, the reason the mom and pops can't stay in business is that they can't compete. I'm tired of all you dirty hippies crying because your personal preference went
out of business. Quit bitching and throw your own money at propping up a losing venture in the face of competition that offers lower prices, and see how good of an investment you think it is then.

Exactly who are you for then? Do you want the services that rape your elderly loved ones of hundreds of dollars and can't provide the service they pay for or the service that will work with your loved one to give them the care that they need?

I am coming in late on this but I have something to say none the less. It is called an "exclusive franchise" that is a legal binding agreement. I know many of the men and women that work at Med Center and they provide Excellent, Quality care to ALL their patients and are pounded in the ground with the continuing ed. they have to do, the insurance mess they do on every patient and all the other BS that is thrown at them from the top. So when you talk about them please refrain from insulting the character of these folks because they are some of the best around. They are over runned, over worked and make less than most other services around with a work load at least triple of most around. WTHC on the other you can blame all you want, just don't individualize these fine people at Med Center. Thanks

Actually here in Nashville, our paramedics are part of the Metro Fire Department. They are employed by the city and are considered part of our emergency response. You are given a choice once in the ambulance as to what hospital you want to go to. If you are unable to respond they will automatically take you the hospital that will best be able to handle your situation. IE, Vanderbilt for severe trauma or St. Thomas for a heart attack. In my opinion, emergency responders should NOT be employed by the local hospitals. This gives the first responders better options in terms of the specific level of care you need to receive.

Totally agree. Wish it was with the Fire Department there at Jackson too. I do know alot of them though and they do ask everyone where they want to go, unless like you said, one hospital is better able to handle the care that is needed.

The ambulances are owned by Jackson General, who basically control a monopoly...and they preferably take patients to Jackson general..I know of a situation where a doc from regional called ems to transport a patient from his office, down the street to regional hospital...& guess where the ambulance took the patient.....Jackson General.

Then that Doc should have done something about it. It is the patients choice, not the doctor. If he wanted them to go to regional and they wanted to go to general then tuff luck. But if they were taken and the patient wanted to go to regional then something can be done about that. They don't just carry them were the EMT's want to go, it's were the patient/family want to go, the doctor has no control over this.
