Does anybody know about what is being built behind Target in North Jackson in the Tomson Farms area? I heard it is going to be a "high end" grocery store like FreshMarket... Just want some confirmation.

I heard it was going to be a Whole Foods Market, but I can't confirm that.

What I want to know is when Jack In The Box or Whataburger are going to locate here.

I've heard Whole Foods or Trader Joes. We need development downtown. Why wont they build in town and not out in North Jackson!

Whole Foods would want to build by Union, not downtown. The college students would be a large part of their business.

No one in there right mind wants to build anything downtown because the local clients would steal them blind. Downtown has what it needs. A gas station and Popeyes with loads of fried chicken. A discount store with items they can afford on a welfare budget. A shop that sells expensive wheels. A place to detail cars with said expensive wheels. The jail is in walking distance so kids can see their dads. The police station is around the corner for quick responses to shootings. Hell there is even a big ass bridge for decent folks to get through it all quickly.

Nope, no money, no education, no safety, no new development.

Midtown would be a more logical location. Have you not heard of the the healthy community development??? I've read in VIP the hospital is investing 40 million dollars to build a new state of the art wellness center downtown by the farmers market. And upscale retail and apartments are being developed. With U of M coming to the old Lambuth campus midtown will be boomtown!!!

Community development? Are you high? The only way to develop downtown Jackson is to evacuate it and every residence with 5 miles...level said residences (all of them) and rebuild homes starting at 200k. The rest will take care of itself.

No but you are rude and wrong-

"Healthy Community" the new multi million dollar development in downtown Jackson- upscale shopping & residential development with the new wellness center next door to the farmers market. There's an entire spread in the May VIP magazine. Midtown is a great community. Plenty of well off people living in LANA, including community leaders, plenty of houses in the 200 to 300 thousand dollar range.

Build the wellness center, the upscale shopping and residential dev. and put the pics in VIP. Come back after all that's finished and tell me what it looks like when the sun goes down....

There is no way that whole foods is coming to Jackson, just not possible, or even Fresh market for that matter. It may be a store like the two, but definitely not either brands. I guarantee it.

It was a Fresh Market, but the project is on hold. It never was Whole Foods.

Yeah, Jackson is just not the best market for either of those stores.

First Point...the new downtown "healthy community development"...how many tax dollars do you think will get shoveled into this boondoggle?...I've lived here almost 9 years and I can tell you that this "development" will not help downtown..the main problem with "downtown" is there is no reason for people to come downtown after dark or on weekends...walk around downtown...what do you find?...the vast majority of storefront businesses are those that operate M-F, 8 (or 9) to 5...yeah, a few places to eat...but the either keep these general hours, or they aren't worth coming back downtown to eat...oh...oh, and of course, this is IMHO...and disagree all you want with FreeThinker, but companies look at crime and demographics when looking to expand into new areas...There is not enough reason for any MAJOR chain to open in downtown...Hell, if Starfucks and Quizos (or was it Schlotskis?) can't make it there, what makes you think any major corp would want to take a chance?...Granted, Green Frog is nice...but I'd like to see their P&Ls...and even they, with the "cupcake" boom, don't use other "local" businesses for items...what does that say?

Second Point...I've long said Jackson needs "upscale" shopping...particularly grocery...why would Kroger or Wal-Mart do anything more than what they need to to get business?...They have no incentive to try and bring in new products (produce, meats, etc)...How about a Williams-Sonoma or a Restoration Hardware?...Why not?...realistically you have a bunch of nickel millionaires (who are all part of the good ole boy system that are running the city/county) who like the status quo...

Ok...I've rambled enough...

Why is it on hold? I'm an hour away from Jackson and I would drive to get fresh produce without all the chemicals and crap that put on our food to try to kill us all. Wonder why cancer and diseases are so rampant in everyone.......
