Im a little south of you. What kind of scope you got. I got a ten inch DOB, and stargazeing is one of my hobbies. Glad to at least know theres someone besides me tht likes the hobby. I was beginning to ask that all too famous question, am I alone? LOL

Man I've been wanting to invest in a good scope for awhile, or at least try to build my own. I just have a cheapish 8 inch Galileo. You can prolly see alot more than I can, I'm on the outskirts of Jackson and have decent view of alot of objects. If I could find a used one of these I would be happy.

I love my DOB but it gets heavy sometimes to carry. This is the first ' real ' scope I've own, I have owned a few cheap ones from wal mart, they are okay I guess, but I wanted more. So far I have seen quiet alot, just wish it would warm up so I could enjoy it more. would like to get into astrophotography, but man that is exspensive, lol. I live in a very dark area and it really helps alot, no light pollution. Have you tried your local pawn shop, or e-bay, I got the dob because it was the biggest and cheapest scope. You can see alot of deep sky objects with it, but like I said its heavy and sometimes thats inconvenient.

DOB's arent that great for imaging or tracking, and thats alot of what I want to do. Something good enough to take good pics of Jupiter, The Crab Nebula, things like that. Its not that hard either.

I hope my wife lets me build an observatory on top of our house.lol

You're right, they arent good for tracking, etc. But you get alot of power with them. Im like you though, Im hopeing someday to get a good scope to do tht with. I havent found the crab nebula yet, hard as i try, and it makes me mad. I have star charts, and have no problem finding even the hardest objects to see, but the crab has eluded me, lol. Btw, are you ready for our two comets this year?
