You cannot read...."Local churches quit doing judgement houses a decade OR MORE AGO......Its 2012 not 1997"

New members ? Community projects?
What's that big bus used for?
Maybe there just isn't a pastor that is good enough for you?
How many ministers have rotated out in the past five years?
Ten?

I've grown up in Calvary and have watched it go through good and bad times. It bothers me that only one person questioned Grant in the personnel committee meeting that morning! Guys, where was your backbone? When a brother is wronged, stand up for him or get called out at judgement day. Members of Calvary, it's time to take a stand or get out. Call for Grant's resignation. Ask God to forgive the church and put his healing hand upon it. Then address the elders or deacons that think they need total power over the church. Lets all pray for the children and youth at Calvary for they are the true victims. Asking for Opie's resignation was just the means to an end.

You need to talk to the other members that feel the same way you do. Make a motion on the floor then have someone second it. It will then be considered for vote. People have stood around for too long. This church is fixing to split and I don't think it can stand that.

It depends on bylaws but definitely have someone ready to second the motion. More than likely a church vote will have to be held in the future in order to give ample time to give fair warning.

If nothing else it proves to him there is a problem and he may resign before church wide vote.

I'm with you. A motion, a second, we discuss, and then we vote.

For Grant to fire Opie is shameful. I know a church has to occasionally do things like this but the way it was done was not Christian. Christians help each other. Grant should have offered to find Opie a position at another church. It's a good thing that Grant's last church didn't find out about him wanting to leave. If Grant thinks it's OK to fire Opie, why didn't Grant resign from his last church the moment he decided to look for another one? We should call his last church and find out what he told them and when he told them. Do you think he told them he was looking for another church?

I disagree with the comment that he is a good preacher. He talks down to us and acts like we're just a bunch of dumb hicks. I've heard his daddy. His daddy may be a terrible pastor but his daddy can preach. Grant can't do either one.

I believe he lied to us when he told us the reason he fired Opie. No church fires people for that. I think he needs more money to do all the expensive things he wants to do. His astronomical salary is not enough. He wants us to pay for his schooling. He wants us to pay for his mission trips or as I call them, all expense-paid preacher vacations. That money has to come from somewhere, doesn't it?

Yes, we need a motion to dismiss Grant Gaines. I'm with you.

When is March business meeting?

Don't for one second think he is not getting his advice from daddy on how to divide and conquer a church now that he is in hot water.

Grant will NOT LEAVE ON HIS OWN, I can guarantee you that.

I know let's attack people instead of the argument.

Maybe in lieu of crosses for Easter on the lawn you could just print out a copy of this topic forum

In the 60's, this church had 600 attending. The 70's through the 90's between 300-400 despite a move to the fastest growing part of town. The last pastor who left was arrogant, condescending and hypocritical.

I'm not sure what the powers that be thought they were getting when they brought in the son of Bellevue's preacher who is known for a controlling and manipulated manner.

But the problems of this church go beyond the preachers to the deacons who are now losing control to this young whippersnapper pastor.

There have been many sacrificial lambs on staff through the years at this church who took the hits and left so the last pastor could spend more and more, build big and bigger and work less and less.

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 7:15

"Beware of false prophets - By false prophets we are to understand teachers of erroneous doctrines, who come professing a commission from God, but whose aim is not to bring the heavenly treasure to the people, but rather to rob them of their earthly good. Teachers who preach for hire, having no motive to enter into the ministry but to get a living, as it is ominously called by some, however they may bear the garb and appearance of the innocent useful sheep, the true pastors commissioned by the Lord Jesus, or to whatever name, class or party they may belong, are, in the sight of the heart-searching God, no other than ravenous wolves, whose design is to feed themselves with the fat, and clothe themselves with the fleece, and thus ruin, instead of save, the flock." - Clarke's Commentary.

There...my contribution. I did go to this church for a time. I found it very empty, and devoid of the spirit.

Wow! Tn Trucker, you are so wise!

Look at history. Look at the personnel committee. There are members who left small churches b/c they did not get their way, and needed to come to another small church so they could get their ego stroked, and could feel important. At a business meeting, they will threaten to leave, either alone or with their group, if things are not done their way. How sad.

When will members stop looking at their "leaders" and focus on the Holy Spirit and winning souls for Christ? Most don't have a clue.

You're on topix too. Maybe they're venting here because no one else will listen to them. If your church is as judgemental as you, they'd be no better off there.

Being a gossip isn't venting, it's a sin. Not judgement, fact from the Bible. If they aren't happy they should leave or vote out the Pastor.
