He is some spoiled brat who has been living off daddy's money and connections for years and now he is supposed to be the pastor of a church. Give me a break!

You see anybody connected to Dockery or Steve Gaines should be so ostracized from any religious job for not speaking out against Steve Gaines and his allowing a child abuser to work at Bellevue for 6 months. How can Steve Gaines be allowed to sit on any board at Union?

Why don't the good people of Calvary ask Grant to produce documentation where he called for his dad to resign?

I ran across this thread and couldn't help myself from commenting. Although I have not attended Calvary, I have several friends in the past who have. What I want to point out is that this big ole mess is not exclusive to one church. When I was in my mid 20s, I attended a different church in south jackson. The same sort of behind the scenes dealings were taking place at that church too. There was a day care center that was milking the church out of very large amounts of money. There was a very jovial preacher who used passive aggressive methods to control certain church members and every committee. If anyone at all questioned his authority, they were labeled as trouble makers and ostracized. I eventually left the church, and tried to find one in Jackson that wasn't just like it. I tried but found nothing. I no longer attend church at all. I have my Bible, and I know what it says. I don't want or need to be involved in organized religion that is really only a business in disguise. These supposed men called of God are only business men that have found an easy way to not work and get paid mega dollars. They have many people seeking a better life, and are predators just waiting on the weak to prey upon. I am a born again Christian, and I choose not to participate in organized religion any longer. For all of you that say don't forsake the assembling of yourselves together, I say to you there are many many more scriptures that are not being followed at all in modern day churches. The only time I attend any services are at a little tiny small Baptist church that is much too far to drive to except on special occasions. I think it is ridiculous that these men can choose this profession instead of being called to it. All the degrees in the world do not mean that the spirit lies within someone. The spirit I have seen indwelling is not Holy, it is EVIL! I was much too smart for one preacher's liking, and caught him red handed. Yet there were still those that hated me for outing their beloved Pastor. He ran off with his tail between his legs and is now a pastor in another state. God gave us the gift of discernment, and to allow evil to direct His house is just as much of a sin as the one that is perpetuating it. The congregation of Calvary should throw him out, and not be swayed by pedigrees, but by the Spirit. I don't believe it will happen. Too many people are blind followers. I know of a child that was molested by an elder at Calvary. She told, and was not believed. This was many years ago, and this was also a beloved member of the church who did this. No one believed the poor child. I believe her. She had nothing to gain and everything to lose. Those creepy music ministers that you know something is off with, why are they allowed to be around children? Why are church people so blinded?

Wow! If what you allege is true, God will certainly punish this person. It is for reasons such as this that the Baptist denomination is suffering. You made very valid points. Many people in the bible belt go to church to find a clique in which to be associated. They LOVE their "friends and church family". I bet the median age of Calvary members is 65, not a lot of youth, a strong senior group with their socials, many people who have been in Jackson all their lives, and want their children to be there so they can then groom them to take over leadership. All the while, there are many people they pass each day who need a smile, or hug and the love of Jesus.

I agree Calvary is filled with older members. There are only a couple of youth now with nothing offered to them. Calvary is filled with an older congregation and they like it that way! Next they'll be going after the Awana's program. As they leave this earth, there will be no Calvary Baptist Church.

Well, former member, I never called it chuck Baptist, although I would agree with that statement.... However, it appears that there are MANY members NOW that are seeing these "people" for who they really are, and I'm just hoping that they take a stand as they claim they will, for the church sake. I (we) left in January and will NOT return, based solely on an inappropriate comment he made to someone (that was overheard by my 12 year old)... We did do the biblical thing and confront him, of which he wouldn't deny nor apologize.... Yet that very morning the sermon was about this particular thing. Making us see the hypocritical side, and also realize this is a "do as I say and not as I do", as one other poster put it.
We assumed the truth would eventually come out as it has, and it breaks our heart that the "church" has to suffer through this, also the reason we just started visiting other churches.
I've seen this same sort of reaction from the pulpit when another local preacher was confronted. He even went as far as to preach on women being silent and their husbands were to do the speaking. He was speaking directly to me, and everyone knew it. There was a major mistake made on his part, being absent during the committee on committees meeting. He normally told the committee who was to be on what committee, but this time, the wise committee members decided to place people with backbone on the committees. Things went downhill from there. I was placed on the finance committee, noticed many many things that disturbed me. When I asked for specific details on financial matters, I was told I was not to be privy to that kind of information. LOL, well, he didn't want me to see the receipts, because he was purchasing household items for himself like a big screen TV and many other things using the church's walmart card. The preacher should be about preaching and ministering. The congregation should be in charge of the church's business. Any preacher who stands in a pulpit and picks on certain members of a congregation deserves to be thrown out on his a$$! However, there will be other members sitting there looking down their noses, smiling on the inside for the tongue lashing that preacher gave the meddlesome members. I also experienced older members inviting me to their homes for pie and coffee, asking me to do their dirty work for them, because I wasn't afraid. When push came to shove, they sawed the limb off behind me that I climbed out upon at the request of life long deacons. They couldn't stand up to him, and when I did, I was crucified. The truth did prevail, as he and the secretary got caught, but those with blinders still probably blame me to this day. I don't care. God made me in His image, and I don't see my God as being a limp wristed fraidy cat. I will always stand for truth and honor and what is good and right, and I will always draw my sword and shield and do battle with evil. Those of you that are scared to stand, keep blindly following and watch the evil grow and thrive amongst you. You can either be a leader, or you can be a follower. Go hide your head under a bushel, or take up your sword and shield and fight the good fight.

That is so sad. I remember visithing there years ago, and it was thriving, friendly, happy, full of the Spirit. Programs, choir ministries, childrens ministries, fellowships, outreach, active SS classes. But you know, there are many little country churches all around, and everyone there is happy with a dormant church. Calvary may be the little country church on Oil Well Road.

What you say is true--I have experienced it myself,as a staff member. And I too wanted to quit, but God had other plans. I now am a pastor. I work a full time job to support my ministry at a small church in the country. EVERYTHING we do is transparent. I have no control over money and lots of accountability from church council members chosen by the congregation, not by me. We get along, get things done, and we are learning the Bible in depth. I just wanted to tell you that there are churches like that out there. Don't give up on the bride of Christ--she is hurt and wounded and in need of nurturing. God bless you and thanks for sharing your story.

I am glad to hear that such churches as yours still exist. I've searched and have come up empty handed. However, I also want to express that the bride of Christ, his church, doesn't have to be confined to a building. I have not given up on Christ. He lives within me, and He ain't goin nowhere :) I just wish He lived within a quarter of the churches in our area. I've looked for Him high and low inside church buildings all over Jackson and West Tennessee, and He was no where to be found. So sad, but in my experience, so true. Keep fighting the good fight, and keep working to keep yourself above reproach. I admire any man that can earn a living for his family while also taking care of a flock. Kudos to you sir, and may others take a look at you, and get a clue.

In any top down mind control church the people can't think freely. They think they are free but that's all. Imagine living in a communist country. The Southern Baptist folks since the Fundamentalist takeover are not free. Steve Gains makes around 600.00 per head on the Holy Land trips he takes his folks on. Imagine your conscience bothering you why he does not tell the folks he is running a business for profit. He never discloses to anyone his profits that could be used to reduce the trip price for all who go. Who you gonna go to. The members don't wish to be labeled a trouble maker and which staff member are you going to go to. HA!! Steve would fire anyone who challenges his money making scheme . It's a MESS!!

There shall be a people,

who are coming to Earth soon.

They shall walk before God

without sin, blemish or any iniquity.

In the Glory of God,

to the Glory of God.

They shall worship in Spirit and Truth and walk in His Light.

They shall obey in Spirit and Truth and be a witness to the Spirit of

Truth.

They shall dwell in all the beauty of the Holiness of God,

unto the Holiness of God.

They shall bless and love the Lord with all they do, with all their hearts

with all their minds and with all their souls

with all their strength.

They shall fulfill the Commandments of Jesus the Christ.

They are sent by God to destroy the works of the children of the devil.

They shall prevail and overcome the temptations of the world and slay

the

children of the devil with the Righteousness of their lives and the Spirit

of their Lord.

And the Sons of God rejoice to see this day.

They shall open the door for the return of the King of Kings to Earth.

They and they alone shall have the blessing of the Lord.

They are the Children of the God most High.

Coming to your church seems as scary as the last 12 years of my life... I have been in and out of church, even visited Calvary... I'm am hungry to hear and learn God's word and need Christian fellowship... My wife doesn't like small churches and is visiting her parents in Memphis, who are members of Bellevue... Christ can give healing to me but he will use another Christian brother to help me to recovery. Please pray for me and my wife as I start to pray for your beloved Church... It and I need Jesus Christ... Getting ready, see you at 10am 3/3/13...

We have to stand up as Christians. Tho I lo e him as a brother he continues to wrong so many people. And its sad, but one poster is right, he is condescending, he does talk down to his flock. We all are sinners, but not all of us lead others in Christ down a path of destruction; which in my opinion is worse. Hence, the reason I have stood up and voiced my concerns, and will continue. If other members feel the same way, we shall see who stands up for what's right at the next meeting.
We have a church full of great and loving Christian spirited people, all this continues to do is prevent the spirit from moving, and I want to feel the spirit in my church again. It has been my church home for 15 years, I'm not going anywhere.
While I am not perfect by any means, I'm merely standing up for what I believe, and I can not imagine God enjoying His church being so divided.
Those who are not members, please don't judge our church based on a few selfish deeds being performed, its totally not indicative of the entire church body, and I beg for your prayers during this difficult time.

I'm curious. Is Grant as crooked as Steve his dad? If you wanna know how crooked and abusive Steve is Google " Steve Gains tithing sermon". He told his flock that if they don't cough up10% God may either kill them or make their children sick! Before you judge please watch the video of the sermon excerpt! Also has Grant entered the holyland trip selling business yet ?
