What are your thoughts? Hospital employees do you think unionization would improve patient care, and/or work environment?

I think it would be great. All the hospital cares about now is hiring new grads because they are cheaper - they don't make any effort towards retention.

Absolutely not. It becomes a selfish endeavor for the nursing staff and totally disregards the patient

If it was all about the patient then nurses would work for free! Everyone knows that West Tenn Healthcare pretty much runs a monopoly and treats their nurses like crap. Nurses, like everyone else, goes to work for pay and benefits and if your employer is not treating you fairly, one way to combat that is organized labor. That be said, yes I do think they should organize, but I doubt it will ever come to fruition.

That's the only way anything positive will happen for nurses at West Tennessee Healthcare. The monopoly they have will never favor retention or loyalty. Memphis has competition so they fight for nurse retention. That's why the pay is so much higher. Up to $30,000/yr higher. Makes it worth the drive.

Go ahead and unionize. That way when you go on strike I can work in your place and it will be close to home. Im getting tired of going to San Diego every year when they go on strike.
