Hey all --

Is Classic Bowl still open? I haven't been in there since I was a kid and it was Malco Lanes. I'm going to be in town this weekend and thought I would stop by and roll a game or two if it's still open.

If it's open, and if you've been, what's your opinion of it? Safe? Not much business?

Yes it's still open. I take my teenagers there some Friday nights. We've always had a good time & never had any trouble. When I described the water slide, putt putt golf, & go carts that used to be there next to the bowling ally I'm pretty sure my kids thought i was making it up. Hope you have a safe trip.

Thanks! I'm glad to hear it's still open. When I was young, my grandmother lived one street over from Arlington, so I used to walk to the bowling alley, Gooney Golf, and the batting cages. We couldn't afford Sun-and-Swim, so I just had to walk by it, instead of stopping and swimming there. It's hard to believe that barren area was once a center of teen social life in Jackson!

So true. At least back then the was somewhere decent to have a teen social life. Now I dread trying to find something to do in Jackson with my kids. We normally end up going out of town. Shiloh, Chickasaw, or the river to fish not exactly what my daughter wants to do every weekend but majority rules. I grew up near Roth Rock & had no life beyond the surrounding streets. So I guess I try to make up for it by doing tons of stuff with my kids.

Way back when Jackson State first opened Ms Betty Watson held her bowling classes there; what a load of fun we all had there.Hollywood was even safe back then and i do not mean the city in California.

I lived in the Hollywood Apts when a Mr Crocker managed them; I think his son may have even been the builder. That was a nice place to live back then; now they seem to be infested with vermin-the two-legged type. I shudder when thinking and seeing what has happened to such a lovely place as Hollywood area.
