Have you seen the prices at the new Lift Fitness downtown Jackson? You have to be a doctor to afford a family membership plus registration fees for each member signing up.

It is $49 to enroll during the introductory period then $200 after that, which is insane. The monthly dues are $51.50/month, which is equally insane. On the radio, the WTH spokesperson said they moved downtown for the following reason: downtown is very rigid and not cookie-cutter. I still don't know what that means. She also said the Chief of Police guaranteed the safety at the Center. What???!! WTH employees are up in arms because the free gym is now $20/month to encourage employees to drive downtown and spend a bunch of money. Ridiculous!

Yea the second family member is 39.50, the third and fourth are 19.50 a piece. Plus the first three people have a registration fee. So easily a family of 4 will pay over 100 a month for a gym membership. Who can afford that? Senior citizens rate is 39.50. SMH!! Family fee at the YMCA is around 40 a month with my work discount.

Will WTH employees get deep discounts at the Center? I was at the farmers market a few weekends ago. The hospital is building a freaking Taj Mahl over there! LOL How will they get enough members to pay for that place! Corporate discounts?

I would love to know what was promised and who it was promised to to get them to build that downtown. For the last 3 years they debated on where the Kirkland Cancer Center was going to go, then ta-da! Lift center downtown Jackson! Where did that come from? It is bad enough that they are buying up existing properties left and right while cutting hours on $10 an hour employees that barely squeak by to begin with, but to build NEW centers in an undesirable area, when there is already plenty of gyms already, is a slap in the face to those employees. Sad.

It's not just a gym but also a sports plus rehab center and the new aqua therapy center. They will also host healthy cooking classes. Go get a brochure and see.... They offer more than any other gym around.

But those services aren't included in gym membership.

West Tennessee Healthcare is a non-profit organization. They find ways to hide all of the money that they make and this is just another way. Other examples are half-empty parking garages, shopping centers that they purchase like the one at Hicksville and then do nothing with and all of the land they have purchased around the Regional Hospital area so that Regional can't expand. It's also a little troubling that WTH is stating that JPD will keep the area safe. Our police dept. is too busy to provide security for the LIFT Center but I'm sure WTH will pull some strings in city government and make that happen. WTH runs this town...

There was a lot of controversy over cardiac rehab patients being forced to leave the hospital gym to go to the lift center. However, I think the hospitals policy on allowing sicker patients to stay at the hospital's gym is an appropriate solution.

That makes no sense. WTH employees pay full price? City employees and their dependants get free memberships paid by the city? SMH

Having family that work for the city and the hospital doesn't make me an expert, but I do get facts. The free membership is ONLY for the city employee NOT for spouses or kids... it's part of their benefits now or something. Not sure what transpired, just know that LIFT is providing other services to employer groups on a corporate level with therapy and screenings, and memberships are just a perk. Hospital employees get discounts for a tremendous amount of medical services and bonuses (that cover the cost of membership at LIFT) just for participating in the employee health program and staying somewhat healthy. And YES, they get a discount... it's just not free.

If it was cheap or free to everyone, it would end up broken down and going broke like the Y. Just saying. Or "Under New Management" like everywhere else constantly... like that reverses years of bad/no service and mediocre.

You get what you pay for... or don't pay for for that matter. The Y will be doing good if they're here in a year. The pools stay shut down and they've cut their employees hours back drastically... and the ones that have already quit have been waiting on their paycheck for weeks.
