As someone who has had a house fire in Jackson I can say they are wonderful!! Get a life and your own job!!!! These men put their lives on the line every time they respond to a fire and I dont care if that is once or fifty times a year! It is more than most do in a lifetime!!!!!!

Jackson FD is NOT volunteer.
Otherwise yes, they have all the nice toys in case they are ever needed. And mostly do a great job. Like most firemen do.
Jackson FD is Volunteer, however they do receive a small stipend for the time deployed.

The Jackson fire department is a paid on call department. The are paid $10.00 a call and $10.00 an hour after the first. They are also paid $10.00 an hour for training and work details. Now for thoes of you that want to spred false rumors. I am a Firefighter, in the past five years i have not had one holiday that i have not been pulled away from my family for an emergency. I have held dead people in my arms, I have pulled screaming children from car crashes, I have crawed through burning homes looking for elderly residents. I suggest that you dont complain about it if you have not done it. For the record the average yearly pay for a Jackson fireman is around $3000.00 to $4000.00 a year not hardly enough for what they do. And yes I realize that there are several departments in the county that do it for free. Just remember when you do something stupid or you are a victum. there will be an emergency responder there to help you.

I don't live in Jackson. Don't know your
firemen by name.

But I've known a few firemen here and there. The word you're looking for is HERO. It takes a lot
of man to run into a burning house. God stacked
firemen pretty tall.

I've known a lot of them. Never once asked one if
they could read or write well. Never saw as it made
a difference.

So the next time you want to disrespect a fireman... think it over.

They are called heros for a reason.

Something someone sent me a while back...

Oh you're a firefighter?? That's cool.

I wanted to do that when I was a kid.

What do you make? WHAT DO I MAKE??

I make holding your hand seem like the biggest thing in the world when I'm cutting you out of a car.

I can make 5 minutes seem like a lifetime when I go in a burning house to save your family.

I make those annoying sirens seem like angels when you need them.

I can make your children breathe when they stop. I can help you survive a heart attack.

I make myself get out of bed at 3am to risk my life to save people I've never met.

Today I might make the ultimate sacrifice to save your life.

I make a difference -what do you make?

a hero is someone who shows up despite the personal cost.
so i mean, i guess, to those of you who think the ten bucks sounds glamorous, have at her.
the rest of you, recognize what youre complaining about. some of the posts on here are pretty factual. some are a joke.
in all the years ive watched, i havent seen people point a finger at the fire dept for spending too much, as in EVERYONE ELSE TAKES MORE. yet, somehow, miraculously, FIRES GET PUT OUT.
it shouldnt take a fireman to come on here and tell you what they make and have to go through what COMMON SENSE tells us they have to do... for yall to get a vision of it.
seriously. idc if youre rich or poor. you are barking up the WRONG financial tree where they taxed you for the ems building and ask you to pay for the service, right? L O L
and no, ive never fought a fire in my life that i didnt make in a campsite. my points stand. get REAL. the way some of these firemen are living, WORKING to live AND being a HERO on the SIDELINES, is despicable, while we debate how much more to throw at "war heroes" in EVERY sense of word! LOL

lol ps jeff used his teaching money to go back to school for some kinda higher education fireman deal.

his own money. that he earned. at another job. because they wouldnt even pay that if it was in their favor.

you can take it all how you wanna take it. but i gotta think, it goes back to my original statment. they are fiscally sound, for shorting themselves as much as possible.

you wanna look at something, figure the percentage on the fire budget as opposed to EVERYTHING else. figure the response rate of any other dept in the city for the payroll they have, as opposed to the firemen who are dropping their "real" or "day" jobs to fight a fire... now thats a perspective to run with right there.

I've read this entire post a time or two. Hard to believe.

I don't imagine many people in Jackson Ohio care, or even know, there's a national monument in Emmitsburg Maryland for firemen who lost their life in the line of duty.

A lot of names.

A few I knew personally.

One...I loved like a brother.

House fire, and he laid it all on the line. He wasn't thinking about his wife, or his three young children. He was trying to to save another child's
life.

Someone he didn't even know.

But he was a fireman. A good one. And that's kind of the thing that we do.

We always hope that everyone of us come back safe. And yet we know that each and every one of us take that chance that we won't be coming home.

So you people go on...make fun of your firemen. Look down on them if you think you need to.

And yet, if you ever have the need to call them...
You know they're coming.

And when they get there, they WILL lay their life on the line.

For what?

For You... whoever you are.

On the lighter side, a few firemen jokes...

Two fellows were sitting in a coffe shop.
Suddenly the Town's Fire Alarm went off ... one jumped up and headed for the door ... his friend shouted, "Hey, Tom, I didn't know you were a fireman!"

Tom replied, "I'm not, but my girlfriend's husband is..."

..........

A blonde calls this rural fire department all excited. She says, "Come quick my barns on fire, my barn's on fire." The dispatcher says, "Calm down now just tell us how to get there." She says, "Oh, don't you have that big red truck anymore?"

Yep.. And has been seen at a rat hole house over on Bennett ave. with a dirty fat woman who looks like she's been rode hard and a little boy looks to be about 4 or 5... Wonder if it's his? His wife seemed sweet! He sure did take a big dive down... That big woman looks like trash!
