Looking for honesty and wanting to hear from students that have had problems with Daymar College. I would like to know what Daymar does right and what Daymar does wrong? Especially would like to hear from former employees of Daymar. Thanks

I am at Daymar at this very moment. Today I will turn in my homework and then we will be watching a movie for the remander of the time. Need I say more. I can't beleive I am paying to be educated but instead I'm watching a movie. I feel like an idiot. :(

Is this type of behavior (from the teachers and administrators) normal at Daymar?

If so, I can see why it's frustrating as a student to have lazy teachers and disinterested administrators. Is there no one that a student can go to and file a complaint?

Why does everybody blame Daymar for everything on here. I graduate in Aug and I have a job waiting on me when I leave. You get exactly what you put into it. You will have problems no matter where you go. I dont agree with everything they do. But everything ive needed i have got from them. I have no complaints.

Just trying to find some truth, since I am trying to make a decision about Daymar. What don't you agree with that they do?

I am a student there and I graduate in Aug. There is nothing wrong with daymar. I would have to say its about like any other college. You show up for class and do the work. You just cant show and wait for a handout. You actually have to put forth the effort. Yes they play movies every once in a while but its usually related to the class. And if you dont like a teacher its probably because you got a bad grade due to lack of effort.

I have a 4.0 an I ussally get the highest grade in my class (around 33% of my classes I have gotten a final grade higher than 100%), so me being mad about that is not it. I'm not even mad, just annoyed because I could watch clips and/or movies for free at home. Also my favorite instructor is one of the instructors that plays movies and clips all of the time. So I'm not angry at the instructors either. Just don't like the fact of showing up and watching stuff that is slightly relevant to the chapter we maybe covering that week.

No it sucks. There are currently 400 to 500 past and present students active in a civil law suit against them. They lie to get your money. And, their credits do not transfer anywhere because they are a vocational school NOT a college.

I attended Daymar from 99-2001 and graduated with a degree in E-Commerce.

Originally, I started out in the Computer Networking program. The lead instructor for it had no college degree; he knew the skills it took to make it in the profession, but had no idea how to communicate it to us effectively. The first techie class I had, Installation & Maintenance, was supposed to prepare us for CompTIA's A + Certification test. Rather than having us do hands-on work, he read to us out of a study guide and had us highlight what was on the test. Oh, we DID put in a CD-ROM drive, which is hardly a marketable skill.

I bounced around to a couple other majors once I'd given up on Networking. Eventually, I graduated with a degree in E-Commerce. At the time, the program was poorly constructed (HTML? Nope; Photoshop, Nada; Macromedia's out-of-date Fireworks? Yup), so what we actually covered was pretty irrelevant. The instructor in charge of this program was a better teacher than the Computer Networking guy, but many of the E-Commerce classes became forums for him to tell funny stories. From what I understand, the E-Commerce program (now called something else) HAS improved since my time at the college.

Job placement? The only thing they did for me while I was at the college was replying to classified ads with my resume, which is something I was perfectly capable of doing myself.

I did not attend my Daymar College graduation ceremony because I was embarrassed and felt as though I'd accomplished nothing. I've earned approximately $250 with the skills I learned at Daymar.

Big help to the state. Have to have 50% of welfare people either working or in school to get millions from the federal govt. This place fills that need, fill the seats and turn in the paperwork.

They try to control your student loans! At first they wouldn't let me take some that I had available then as time progressed they forced a new one in my face and said you HAVE TO have this one and you have to pay X amount of money each month for it!! Some classes are good but others are completely stupid! No matter the profession you go for you have to take a class about setting goals, never thinking negative, and controlling your feelings. Some classes are like here's your stuff now learn it as if the teachers don't have to explain anything and that we all should know and remember everything from high school. Other classes are really good and will make presentations about your lessons and leave extra time at the end of class in case anyone needs help. Over All Daymar College is not worth it! Plus a lot of the bigger and better schools actually cost less than Daymar! It's crazy how Daymar will trap you into paying 3x's as much to go there than if you were to go to Hocking or Rio!

from a Nashville paper
Former students sue Daymar Institutes for $25M, claiming they were scammed
Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 3:10pm
By Pierce Greenberg
A $25 million lawsuit against Daymar Institutes in Middle Tennessee claims students were scammed out of an education — and thousands of dollars.

Eight students who attended Daymar Institutes in Clarksville and Murfreesboro filed the lawsuit Monday in Davidson County Circuit Court.

Daymar Institute, formerly known as Draughons Junior College, is a for-profit, private institution that offers career-based educational programs.

The lawsuit, which is seeking class action, claims Daymar made deceitful promises about career placement and transfer credits, employed “highly unqualified faculty” and caused the defendants to take on “significant educational debt.”

“Job opportunities are not there, as promised. There have been various misrepresentations,” said Knoxville attorney Doug Nichol, who is representing the plaintiffs.“It’s just a diploma mill.”

Calls to the Daymar College Group headquarters in Owensboro weren’t returned on Tuesday.

This isn’t the first time Owensboro, Ky.-based Daymar Colleges Group has been the target of a hefty lawsuit. In July 2011, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway sued Daymar College for similar violations of state consumer protection law, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Daymar is also facing multiple lawsuits with hundreds of complainants in U.S. District Court in Western Kentucky.

Several of the Daymar Colleges, including the Daymar Institutes in Clarksville, Murfreesboro and Nashville received reaccreditation from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools in December. The ACICS is approved by the U.S. Department of Education.

According to its website, the completion of a 96-hour billing and coding specialist associate’s degree at Nashville’s Daymar Institute costs $37,913 and the in-field placement rate is 8.3 percent.

A similar associate’s degree at Nashville State in business management is only 60 hours, costs roughly $7,740 and is transferrable to all Tennessee Board of Regents and University of Tennessee schools.

Overall, the student enrollment at Daymar’s four Middle Tennessee campuses (there are two in Nashville) was 3,480 according to the latest numbers. In 2010, 441 students were “placeable” and 265 found jobs, a 60 percent placement rate.

I graduated from Daymar a year ago. I got straight A's never missed a day the entire two years that I was there, and I am still unable to find a job!! I don't blame Daymar, but I went through the medical assisting clinical program, and most places want you to have 2yrs experience before they hire you. One of the girls that finished with me even went on to get state certified and still isn't employed! Just a thought, we are good people and have worked hard all our lives, but our education from Daymar got us nowhere :/

Daily Horoscope for May 18

Aquarius

Watch out if you're going shopping, because you'll be tempted to splash out on impulse buys. This doesn't matter so much if you're feeling flush, but it could cause problems if you're supposed to be counting every penny. Whatever the state of your finances, you may buy items you don't need and possibly even won't like when you look at them again tomorrow.
