Yes this is so true and so sad. My husband and several others have seen them during hunting season especially right off of 35 right out of Jamestown.

Does Jackson County have a shelter to help with these issues? If not, there needs to be one. I know that there is no way of weeding out all the useres. However, those out there that need help in the right direction would have a better chance. I was homeless about four years ago. I lived on the riverbank in my vehicle with two children. With the help of a shelter I was able to get back on my feet within a few months. No, it doesn't happen overnight. It takes hard work and commitment. All of you out there my heart goes out to you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Why isn't your mom helping you out and letting you stay w/ her. I know my parents would never let me be homeless and sleep in a car!!!

I'm having a hard time believing there are 150 homeless in Jackson. A couple months ago Sojourners (I think it was them but it could have been another group) conducted a head count and couldn't find 20 truly homeless in Jackson city. Maybe she's counting multiple family homes as well. Some studies count families as homeless if they are living with another family.

The reason I know that they completed the head count was because they went to businesses, clinics, and hospitals asking them to help.

Either way, 20 or 150, its still a problem. Jackson doesn't have a shelter but there are some near. The problem is some homeless don't want to follow the rules of the shelters. They have curfews, some require church attendance, being drug free, sleeping separate from your boyfriend or girlfriend, they also require you to be ACTIVELY looking for employment.

There are jobs, maybe not the idea job but work is work and after you get settled in then when/if the opportunity arises for a better job then they can take it. Some people want to go straight to the top and refuse to flip burgers, bring in carts, or work as a farm hand or whatever else they need to do to survive. It's easier to say " there's no jobs" or "Nobody will hire me." I wouldn't hire anyone with the lazy attitude that half these young folks have today. They want everything handed to them. It's not going to happen.

Rules are a good thing whether they like it or not. It is a way of leading toward progress in one's life. I feel as if one is truely homeless they will do what is called for and find a way to make it work in their best interest. However, I have known many who preferred living a life of no limits.

I am glad there is a place for people to go and receive some help if needed. I think there is a facebook page for Under the Oak Tree.
