I do agree with you on much of what you wrote. But in regard to less crime in '55, let's consider a few things:(1)there were less people then, less chance of crime (2) people could get away with not locking their doors (3) school shootings were unheard of (4) no bad influences of video games, music, music videos, etc.(5)more moms were at home to help raise the kids.....not somebody at a daycare like today.(6) prayer was still in many schools.
We had prayer in school when I was a kid. It was a waste of time and it really has no place in a public school system. Your nostalgia for stay at home mothers belies a highly sexist view. Nowadays IF a family can afford it, sometimes the father is the better parent to stay with the children, and economic reality leaves few families the option of a stay at home parent. You also neglect the way the rise in instant media makes things SEEM worse by bringing the ugly from every corner of the world right to your door step. And let's face it, America isn't able to dominate the world like it did then, much of the world was in ruins following the war and could not compete with our unscathed industrial structure. That disparity wasn't going to last forever anyway, but while other countries struggled to improve their lot, we became mindlessly cozy as a whole and allowed large corporations to govern by lobby.

I do agree with some of your observations, BEE33. You seem to be quite knowledgable and intelligent.

Good for mom? Why doesn't the child live with the mom then? She lives with her grandparents. There's more to this story than you see.

The whole American South is stuck in 1955.
Example: small town, Corning Arkansas, all they talk do is gay and black bashing. Backwards little town, in a backwards crooked county, in backwards Arkansas in the Backwards South. Go check it out. It'll turn your stomach the stuff they say. Reason I know this is that I grew up around there. It's the worst place I have ever been as far as intolerance and judgmental. They need to be educated. Ignorance is not always bliss.

Let's not forget other things in '55....Segregation, lynchings, McCarthyism, rampant workplace sexism, poor environmental laws....

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Leo

You'll be action-oriented today, Leo. If truth be told, intense physical activity has the ability to soothe you much more than frenzied mental exercise. Invitations to madness are the wrong thing for you, but they are tempting nonetheless. Dig in your heels and do what you know you have to do. When driving this evening, take extra care.
