I was a good friend of Max Palmer and his wife Betty and their two children Amy and Shane when they lived here in Arnold Missouri .I knew Max from 1968 when i was 13 until his death in 1984 ,we all went to the same church .I used to stay all night with the Palmers and listen to Max tell stories about being in Hollywood and in The Movie Invaders From Mars and in the Jungle Jim movies as the giant killer ape man.He also told about when he used to fight three men at a time in the ring as Paul Bunyun and also how much he loved our God in Heaven after he got saved and became a preacher. When Max died in 1984 i went with his wife Betty down to Ponatoch Missisippi to bury him next to his mother in an old country grave it took ten men to carry his coffin from the hearse to the grave, i really miss Max alot he was a true friend if anyone knows where Betty and Shane Amy are in IL. . Tell them i'm looking for them and to look my number up in Imperial and call me i'm listed under R. Johnson thanks

I met Max Palmer as a child in church. He came to Crane, Texas as a preacher. He brought me to Christ and he signed my Bible. I always wondered what happened to him. I did see and still have the article in the Enquirer about how tall he was and he had married a short wife. I believe I was about 11 years old. I am 50 yrs. old now. He was a great inspiration.

I also knew Max Palmer although I was very little. He was a friend of my fathers friend Gib Cooper and became a friend of my dad Byron. I remember Max at our home and he picked me up putting me on to of the kitchen cabnits which were about 10 feet up! I havepictures of Max . These were taken in the mid 50s before he became a minister. I had a letter from Max years later when I found him in a Enquier paper. Max passed away before he could come to see us. If anyone would like some copies of the pictures I would be glad to send them. Rick Stafford flatstorerick@msn.com
Although it has been many years as I am 55 now I sure remember Max!

Max Palmer was my 3rd cousin. My grandmother (Hazel McCord), his 1st cousin, remembers Max riding a horse down to her house when she was about 10 years old and his legs were dragging the ground. I've been looking for information on him and pictures. Thank you all for the stories of a cousin I never had the chance to know.

When I was a sophomore in high school, 1966 - 1967, in the NW Oklahoma City area, Max Palmer used to visit/eat at a restaurant at which I worked, a Village Inn Pancake House. He would sit at a table at the front where the hostess (Hazel Moore) would sit, and his knees would be a good 5 - 6 inches higher than the surface of the table. He was married at the time, to Betty, and a couple times he came into the restaurant Betty was with him. I remember she was real short, under 5 ft I believe. Max had a mid '60s car, a Ford I believe, and there was no back seat, the front seat having been repositioned part way back into the back seat area. Max was a great guy, always friendly and interested in talking to me and the other high school age busboys. He also became good friends with the head cook, George something or other, Smith maybe, and Max would go back into the kitchen to visit with George. But the doors going from the dining room into the kitchen were not tall enough and Max would have to bend over to get through them. I've read a couple places that his height was 8' 2", and another place where it was 7' 7". From the way he had to bend to get into the kitchen, I think the 8' 2" is correct. Again, Max was a great guy, always willing to take time to visit with the guys working at the restaurant. Per my recollection, he was a traveling preacher at the time, and he must have been good at it considering the way he could talk to people.

I met Max at our church in 1971 when he came to preach. The night before he preached, our youth group had him to speak to us at a banquet. Because I was the shortest one in our group, they photographed us together. He was holding my guitar. I will be glad to share that photo via email if anyone is interested.

Max and Betty went to church with us in the early 80's. Our son, Jacob used to always ask Max to stand up to see how tall he was. Max had very bad knees but he always stood up for us. Max and Betty were invited to our home for dinner and didn't make it because Max had broken his hip. We moved to Omaha in 1983 and found out Max died a few months after we moved. I would love to get in contact with Betty also. Rose

max had alot of friends and i can say that i was proud to be one of them...he lived in the same mobile home park as i did and he loved the attention from the kids because he could tell all his stories...as i got older and could drive,i would drive max around to different place in arnold mo. in his truck that he had...i basically had to sit with seat all the way back in an extended cab and put cushions behind me so i could touch the pedals..max did have bad knees so often times i would help him in and out the truck or up the steps at his home....i dont remember the year but the tv show real people came and interviewed me and other kids about max..fred willard and sarah purcell were there but i dont think i ever saw it on tv....i really miss max and unfortunately i was not aware when he got sick and passed away and i was told that he wondered why i had not come to see him while he was sick because i had always kept in touch...i also would like to talk to betty, shane or amy....i still live in the arnold area and listed in the phone book

Hiya Folks,
I'm alive and well and so are the rest of the family. My mom is living in a tiny town in central IL called Dalton City. Amy lives with her and Amy has 3 kids. I'm married and live in Greenville, IL. We all moved over here after Dad died. Hard times followed and we've all lost a spouse, Amy most rescently. Our lives were a true wonder since we knew him and we all love him to this day. My email address is cherokeepyrate@yahoo.com and I'd appreciate any and all comments, pictures or anything concerning my Dad. I'm currently trying to get stories of his childhood and teen yrs so I can write a book about him. I'm just getting info right now but I'll be working more on the book as soon as I get enough to make it interesting. I know a lot of people knew my Dad and loved him because he was a great person to know. Any anecdotes or stories you might have or remember please email them to me. Love Shane
