Drugs are being sold in the halls and class rooms of JHS. Admin knows who is selling and who is buying but they do nothing about it. We are sending our kids into a drug infested school every day and no one seems to care. Why is there no drug sniffing dog in the halls and parking lots weekly or even daily? What does the resource officer do all day? What can be done to stop this?

Well if they did that it would mean that is something wrong with the perfect school and central office would look bad.

Well they are too busy plotting the next power play move to be concerned about the students. Remember it is all about who is going to be the next superintendent and who is going to support her in the process. Students are the last concern of the central office and it appears the school board since they bury their heads in the sand too. Drugs and bullying continue to be a problem with no action or reaction from the central office and admins.

Well how many, the public wouldnt know this because the board minutes are never made public. I assume you have to ask for them, or beg. Gotta keep secrets secret. They dont have to tell the names but they sure could give a number.

I remember going to Sikeston and them handling the drug problem at school the same way. They didn't begin to get a handle on the situation till it was too late. I was there in '99 when SDPS (sikeston department of public safety) began bringing the drug dogs on campus while we were in class, they ALWAYS found drugs in the parking lot or in lockers. And what's sad is the problem knew no color, there were always whites and blacks getting caught with the stuff on campus. My best friend's mom is a clerk at SDPS and says things have gotten way better since then. I know Jackson is known for their great athletic and education system, just would hate to see them go through the same thing SHS had to go through because of a delayed or hesitative reaction.

Honestly, the "drug selling in the hallways" is not true. Outside of school and in the bathrooms is more like it. If you really wanna know, I'll tell you. Most of the daughters in the highschool (not all but most, not to offend anyone) do cocaine in the second floor old A bathroom. Aderol and pain pills seem to be the biggest frenzy seeing how my ex almost overdosed AT SCHOOL and no teacher or staff even seemed to notice.
The resource officer, though a nice guy, doesn't really do much. I do know that one of my former friends smoked pot and went to a game... it was then he decided to use his badge. I'm agreeing with you parents and I just graduated. Jackson is a good school with bad influences. Someone needs to do something.

There is a very serious drug problem at JHS. It seems to be worse at the Junior High. The faculty and community need to stop sweeping it under the rug.

Thank you mother of 4! How do we get the school to recognize the problem? They all walk around in their "perfect school dream world" and want to blame the parents of kids that are doing or have done drugs and busted. Its nearly impossible to keep our kids away from it. I am willing to listen to any suggestion offered.

I am a senior at JHS and honestly, you parents are oversensationalizing something that goes on at EVERY high school. If you claim there was no drug use amongst students when you were in high school, you're delusional. I am in these hallways EVERYDAY and people aren't walking around selling drugs. Concerned mother, do you even have a child at the hs? Because in another thread that you're complaining in, you said your son is 13. There ARE random searches, with K9 units so if in fact you DO have a child there, you should know that. Several kids have been suspended and even expelled for drug and alcohol use and possession. It's really tiring to hear all you parents complain about something that you obviously haven't done your research on. If it's that bad, there's always private high schools, or better yet in your situation, HOMESCHOOLING! Otherwise, teach your child to stay away from drugs and if you do your job right, you wont have to worry about it.

Also, Concerned mother, since you seem to have inside information telling you how many kids were suspended in a weeks time, and that number was 10, how can you say that no one is doing anything about it? If they were SUSPENDED, seems to me like someone has to be doing something or else they would still be in class influencing your children. Don't you think?

I do have a child in JHS and I have done my research. I am glad you have had a wonderful experience at JHS. Not all kids do. Some kids are strong and can resist peer pressure others cannot. I just feel that the school could do more. And you may not hang around kids that sell drugs in the hall ways but it happens and I no that for a fact! Thank you.

concerned Mother, I graduated in 06 and often smoked pot in that highschool but never once did I see anyone in the hallways selling it. Nor did I see anyone forcing drugs or alcohol on other students. Anyone that did anything was doing it of thier own free will. You need to lose the misconception that you should control your children and let them live thier lives woman. I understand that it might be a completely obsurd idea to you but sooner hopefully rather than later you will embrace it. I graduated from that highschool and yes there were kids that got into trouble and experimentedwith drugs but none of them fit into the little stereotype i feel you have of the kids now. I`m sure even you yourself had experiences with drugs and alcohol in school and if not I`m sorry that you can not decide on issues for yourself and half to follow the populous

The only question i have is how do you know this "for a fact" ?
Unless its your child selling them, I can't really see how you could have that information as a fact. And i like how you just disreguard everything else i said that proved you wrong. Again, if the school is so bad and not doing a thing about this problem, how did those, as you said, ten kids get suspended for drugs? You contradict yourself too much to be taken seriously.
