Yes sir, it is your "right" to set off fireworks. You can do what you want to your personal residence. However, "city slicker" is correct. It is way to dry to set off fireworks. The smallest spark can set your entire place up in flames in a matter of minutes. Advice: call your insurance co & check your home owners insurance is paid up/active. R
I've been in the Mark Twain forest all day. Cape and Sikeston firefighters are coming in off duty to help. It's up to 800 acres. Ky has a wildfire going now of 500 acres.

again, you're exactly right. It's definitely worth taking the chance. You're little flashes of light in the sky must be pretty freakin spectacular to "take your chances" at burning down your property, home, and possibly your neighbor's. Your five acres isn't a fire proof safe. I hope you're being as frank and arrogant with your neighbors (yes I realize there isn't a house directly next to yours but someone else does own the property connecting to yours) as you are with us.

If that "damn liberal" burned your stuff up I'm sure you'd be singing the exact same tune. No, you probably won't lose sleep over it. New studies have shown that ignorance is bliss, so you must be feeling pretty good right now.:-/

Banning fireworks is not the answer. People need to be responsible. Most fireworks are not a fire hazard if used properly. Arial Display fireworks such as 200 and 500 gram cakes have a strict stipulation that all spark must be extinguished from the shot before it reaches the ground. Fires are set by people shooting roman candles and bottle rockets wrong. Those too are made to be out before the shot touches the ground if they are fired properly. Why should everyone be punished because of some people not being responsible. I tell people not to buy rockets and fountains. Other than that fireworks are 1/100th the fire risk that people throwing cigarettes out of their car window. Are we going to ban smoking as well? Come on people....having local governments ban fireworks will hurt way more people than it helps

Your right, we should ban smoking as well. Someone start a thread.....:) lol I'm not saying ban fireworks forever, I'm saying that under the current weather conditions it is not safe. Anything that a person lights has the potential to cause a fire. All fireworks should be banned. I'm not out to punish anyone. Yes, it sucks that the firework stands will probably lose money this year but lost money is better than lost lives. Asking people to be responsible is like asking the government to be responsible. Good luck with that!

The people that run fireworks stands are looking for easy money and they don't care who they hurt

I am sitting here listening to someone have a HELL of a display RIGHT BY THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! The schoolyard runs down to my backyard. How thoughtless can some people be to set them off right by the school?! If there will be no ban, please at least set a curfew so those of us who care about our properties and those of others, including the CITY'S property, can rest at ease at a decent hour!!!!

I know people that have talked to the mayor personally and she doesn't seem to think fireworks is a problem. I am very concerned about my property. This is so stupid to let people shoot fireworks in these dry conditions.

Well my family and I just celebrated our 4th of July early today. Had fireworks and a camp fire. My home is still standing. These bans can kiss my butt. They are stupid.

People drive drunk sometimes and don't always kill someone too but that doesn't make it right. You took a chance, gambled with the lives around you, your house and your property and came out on top. Woo hoo!!! That is something to celebrate. I hope your always this lucky.
