Did anyone see the bright white light in the sky last night right at 10:30pm? It had a long white and bluish tail with a large circular front that was bright white, blue and green. The second I saw it I reach for my camera and it just disappeared and was gone. My son and his girlfriend were with me walking their dog and all saw it.

Yay! Another topic about stuff in the sky.

I'm somewhat of the resident Jacksonian Astronomer, I'll see what I can do to help. A few simple questions as to your inquiry.

1) where was this object located? Any landmark celestial objects would help too.

2) how long did this event take to transpire?/ relative speed of object

3) was the object moving at an obvious inclination?(angled downwards or so)

4) did the object turn greenish as it disappeared?

5) was it a singular object? Or was there fragmentation at the end?

From your information, I believe this to be a meteorite. Typically they are quite colorful around this time of year I've found.

1) where was this object located? Any landmark celestial objects would help too. Around exit 102 off I-55
2) how long did this event take to transpire?/ relative speed of object 5-10 seconds. Very fast speed. Airplanes were around and it was 100 times faster than them
3) was the object moving at an obvious inclination?(angled downwards or so) looked like it was going straight across the sky
4) did the object turn greenish as it disappeared? I would say more bluish silver. My son said green but I barely say any green in it.
5) was it a singular object? Or was there fragmentation at the end? No fragments just a big ball with a long tail.

I answered by ur questions.

I live in Palos Heights,IL. My wife and I were sitting on our couch watching tv and we both saw the ball of light falling from the sky rapidly. We were facing southeast. We originally thought comet, but meteorite makes more sense. Either way it was really cool.

Bear in mind it's only a meteorite if it reaches the surface of the Earth.

A meteoroid is in space.( large object asteroid belt kinda deal)

Meteor enters atmosphere but doesn't reach surface.
