Unless you live right in town, stay away from AT&T. We have been complaining to them for almost a year and they have yet to fix our internet. We get disconnected up to 20 times a day, our speed is WAY below what was promised, techs do not show up when they say they will, etc etc etc. They are a nightmare.

I live up by Deatons Funeral home and I have AT&T and they've been nothing but good to me. Always come when asked and they will always help whenever I call them.

I don't know why you are having a hard time with them. you might need to check your line going from the box to inside your house, and make sure you have a filter on all the lines attached to your aDSL line.

We've done all that. There have been 7 different technicians out here, we've called countless times, they have proof on file of how slow the internet is when we call, how many times we get disconnected, since they can monitor all that. It's not just our problem, I have a friend on the other end of this road who has AT&T and if our internet is not working right, neither is hers.

When we lived in town we never had problems with them either. But we move 5 miles away and the service turns to sh*t. I filed a complaint with the FCC and the Better Business Bureau, we'll see if that works.

It's not just me, or this area either. Doing a search on AT&T internet slow speed dsl brings up dozens and dozens of similar complaints on their forums.

Also, our speed is supposed to be close to 3.00 mbps download. I just tested. 0.36 mbps. It's a disgrace. They know there's no other option for high speed internet and are taking advantage of the fact.

Stay Away, I got news for ya. Unless you live in an area covered by TDS Telecom or Thacker and Grigsby, you will still be dealing with AT&T when it comes to repair service, and still be dealing with the same service outages. AT&T owns the lines and the booster stations. Places like Lightyear and Windstream just lease the lines.

And those lines aren't exactly in the best of shape. AT&T advertises 3MBPS download speeds, but the lines aren't capable of that everywhere in the county. Trying to run 3MBPS down those lines is like trying to run two coal trucks down a one line road. Try contacting AT&T and change your package from the 3MBPS one to the 1.5MBPS. You'll save a bit on the bill every month and the service will be more reliable. I did that a month ago and my service runs much better.

Unless you live in an area that gets a lot of pillhead activity on the phone lines.

If the lines can't handle it, AT&T shouldn't offer it in the area.
And I wouldn't know or care about the pillhead activity. I just want to be able to watch Netflix and play World of Warcraft when I have free time. We were promised we'd be able to do that.

The phone lines in Jackson can handle it. Out in the county it's hit or miss. It's cheaper (and therefore cheaper on the customers) to use a blanket advertising strategy. However, I agree they need to be more honest about the speeds the lines can handle in each community. Lightyear is honest about it. The problem with Lightyear's service is that if you need repair work done on the lines AT&T has to do it, and they can't find a single f*ck to give about customers that aren't theirs.

Cut your service back to 1.5 MBPS and your connection will be more stable and faster. It worked here, and I can watch all of the Netflix and play all the WoW I want now.

As an aside, I really wish the cable companies in the county would offer High-speed cable Internet. It's much more reliable than DSL, and a hell of a lot faster.
