I know this thread is about a different person, but have you ever seen the movie, "The Music Man", a 1962 musical film starring Robert Preston? I seen the movie years ago and it was a very good movie. I also seen the movie about Johnny Cash's biography, that was also a good movie.

Yes Charles, that movie is a classic. I posted this link for a few reasons. First and foremost, "Jackson" was written by a good friend of mine, Billy Edd Wheeler. He lives in North Carolina now, but comes back to Berea 2 or 3 times a year. Secondly, since this is the Jackson forum, I thought this song would be appropriate to begin my music thread with. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.

That's all right! I enjoy threads like this one. Johnny Cash was a great singer, so was his wife.

I have seen the movie "The Music Man" probably ten times. It never gets old. The song "Jackson", was it written about our town, Jackson?

Actually, Billy Edd was just looking for a city with two syllables. Funny you should ask though, because I had posed that very question to him this past July. He said most people think it's about Jackson, Mississippi, but in reality, it could be about any town named Jackson, lol.

When I listened closely to the song "Jackson", it makes me think the event happened around during the 1940s through the1970s, when Jackson was a booming town. I like songs that makes me think back in the past. Of course, I know people get different ideas when they listen to a song, which takes them to a different time in their past.

Being a "musical Junkie", so to speak, I've always associated past events with songs from that particular time. I actually believe it's enhanced my memory, lol.

Actually, most songs were based on historic facts, such as the westerns, war songs, disasters like [the sinking of the Bismarck], and songs about ballads.

I don't remember it when it was released because I was quite young, I'm 56 now. If I could repeat the inspiration to the outhouse song, or what he said, lol, I'd probably be thrown off topix! lol. You know CSH, you seem to be one of the more thoughtful posters on Jacksontopix, what do you think of topix in general?

Topix can be quite frightful sometimes. I'm not putting anyone down, but there are some that takes it the the extreme. They gossip too much, and some of the gossip isn't true, and hurts other's reputations. I know we're all adults on here [I certainly hope so], but we could be more adult like, not call so many other people names.

I could be wrong, but I believe the real title of the song, "The Out House" was called "Don't Let Them Tear Little Brown Building Down ".
