Rick Pitino has now jumped on the band wagon of those opposing gun owenership. He said something like, this is not the wild west and we don't need to protect ourselves anymore. ( not a direct quote, but that is it in a nutshell ) It appears that Rick has a lot more trust in the powers that be than the average American.

We do not need assault guns, armor piercing ammo, or the like. We just don't. Guns that can shoot 100 rounds in a few minutes in the hands of most people is as nutty as a fruitcake. What are they for other than fighting a war?

I'm all for guns and gun ownership with proper training and some control, but I have drawn the line on these assault rifles and such. We just don't need them in our society.

I really think the gun companies and big businesses are the ones pushing such weapons. Are we too free in America? It seems the Constitution lets anything go these days. We are a ship out of control.

Why the witch hunt on semi-automatic rifles? They're not "assault" weapons. By definition, "assault" weapons are capable of selective fire. Either single or fully-auto.

None of the weapons they are talking about banning are fully automatic. You already can't own a fully automatic weapon without very expensive permit. Somehow criminals still get a hold of them at times though(imagine that!).

What is the difference between an AR-15 and a .223 hunting rifle, except one looks scary to some people?

You gun grabbers are also totally illogical. Every year, a little over 300 people are killed in America by so-called "assault" rifles. Yet over 8000 are killed by handguns.

You think the gun grabbers are going to stop with semi-automatic rifles? Far from it. After banning those, and seeing absolutely no impact on the murder rate in this country, they will come back for your handguns. They will say "oh, they were the problem all along!"

After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, they could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started. The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River.

Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships…...all fighting the Germans. So, why did they not invade?

After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question. Their
answer…...they knew that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them.
The world's largest army...America's hunters!

A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a
handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:

There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of
Wisconsin ..Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth
largest army in the world.

More men under arms than in Iran.
More than in France and Germany combined.

These men were deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with
firearms, and no one was killed.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and
Michigan's 700,000 hunters.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

My point?

America will forever be safe from foreign
invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting --it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

And screw you, Piers Morgan.

Out-of-town posters invading local forums and spreading anti-gun rhetoric.

You see this all over internet message boards. It is happening everywhere, not just Topix.

China has called on the US to disarm our citizens.

Do YOU care about gun control in China? Of course not, so why do foreign countries care so much about gun control in America?

The United Kingdom disarmed its citizens back in the 90's. Violent crime skyrocketed. Today, UK tops the list for violent crime rate, far surpassing the United States and even South Africa.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/07/02/art...

2034 per 100,000 people! That means that 1 in 50 people in the United Kingdom are victims of a violent crime every year!

What is the violent crime rate in the US? 386.3 violent crimes per 100,000, or around 1/6 of what it is in the disarmed United Kingdom.

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in...

Roughly 1,352,050 violent crimes take place annually in the US. If we had the United Kingdom's crime rate, that number would skyrocket to 7,119,000 violent crimes every year.

I don't know about you, but trading 9,000 gun homicides yearly for close to 6 million rapes, robberies, and assaults doesn't sound like a good deal to me!

It amazes me that CNN lets such a despicable foreign criminal spout his rhetoric nightly.

He's BRITISH, what right does he have to preach to Americans and tell us to give up our freedoms?

He needs to go back to England where he can tap more phones of dead children for trashy wastebasket tabloids.

Piers Morgan aside, The 2 nd ammendment gives us the right to bear arms. There will always be low lives who are out to take what you have worked to aquire. Having a weapon for protection is our right. Remember the old man in Northern Ky who had been robed 3 times and decided enough was enough. there may be those who choose to give up this right, but I am not one of those. The school shooting in Newtown Ct.is beyond comprehension. Those who do have guns must take extra steps to keep them from falling in to the wrong hands.Legal or illegal, it seems criminals always find a way to get their hands on guns. I bieleve taking away the right to bear arms will make crime go up.

in a free country it is not about what you need, mental people are not allowed to have guns at all,he was a criminal for having the gun in the first place, blame him not the tool he used to kill them with, if he had stolen drugs and needles from a drug store and walked around giving people a lethal shot, then should we ban that stuff as well, when the drunk hit the bus in carrolton ky and all those kids burned alive,i heard no talk of banning whisky, or banning half gallon containers of whisky, you know you dont need that big old jug of stuff,,, it would be the same way of thinking.if the goverment just let you have what they think you need the there would be one car per family and no riding lawnmowers to pollute the air and only a 20 inch tv,you know you dont need a 60 inch screen.its about freedom ,blame the person for their mistake and not how they done the crime,ar15 guns bring a lot of joy to their lawful users just like other people have hobbies that look crazy to people that shoot ar15 guns.if you think about banning any kind of guns then think about banning alcohol,,cause it kills way more people than guns, lets ban chevy trucks too,it is what he burned all those kids with,,,, ban video games like tha kindergarden killer game where you play an online game by killing kids.just use common sense,it is not the guns fault.

The core of the problem won't be dicussed because they go to great lenghts to protect their rear ends.Violent entertainment and the media always come out unscathed. When the ban on assault weapons takes place then Hollywood is going to turn to other methods for mass killings in their t.v. shows and movies and the media always praises them for being so creative.

Are you going to blame the knife when serial killers have stabbed people to death? Serial killers don't kill as many people at one time but they kill quite a few.People have stoned people, they have clubbed people to death, etc. Why not blame the human hands or get to the real blame and that is what is going on in the killer's mind? In Chicago the gang related killings have taken more people then mass killings. They will ban assault guns for starters and that won't stop mass killings. The mentally ill mass killers will be inspired by Hollywood to turn to other methods like bombs, because they can more people.Bombs are the favorites of terrorist and Hollywood and the media are creating home grown terrorist.

Like the NRA said this morning we need more mental health help, we need stiffer penalites for crimes committed with guns. I will take it one step further we need stiffer penalities for all crimes period. We need to make prison and jail a place that no one wants to return too. Same with Juvenile facilities. That is what is wrong with America. Not the guns, not the law abiding sane indviduals, but those that are not.
As much as it hurts me to say this part of the blame for this idiots rampage can be laid at the door of his mother. I wonder if she even had those guns in a safe place. Such as a locked gun cabinet etc... They keep saying she knew he had mental problems and wanted protection. If he was that bad off why was she letting him stay there instead of trying to get him help. Ever hear of a three day hold? Where you can go and swear someone is a threat to themselves or someone and they can pick you up and hold you for three days without your consent in a mental facility. If we have that here in what is considered backwoods kentucky, then I am sure in some place like conn they have it.

COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER !!

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness.. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.
"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!
My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"
- Darrell Scott
Do what the media did not -- let the nation hear this man's speech. Please send this out to everyone you can.

Because when I pull the trigger on an assault gun I can kill 100 people in a minute. Who needs such weapons? I own a pistol, but I wouldn't want to come up against a gun shooting faster than I can count and firing armor piercing bullets. We just don't need such guns in our society. If we are attacked by some enemy, let our Armed Forces take care of the war. Over the years, this idea that the Constitution says we can do this and do that has grown out of proportion. And those who say it guarantees the right to bear such assault guns need to read it again.
