Guru, this "concrete" you talk about is something I do acknowledge. Slavery wasn't something for the white man to be proud of. But what about black history before the Triangle Trade that saw so many blacks hauled off into slavery? Exportation of Black slavery is only a blip on the timeline compared to the last 2000 years, but I'm constantly told I have to ignore all of my race's advancements because for a short time whites held blacks in slavery.

Their own kind sold them to the whites, and we brought them here, took care of them, sacrificed white lives to free them, aided them in their struggle for civil rights, and even elected one of them President. How have we been repaid?

Blacks demand reparations, not from the people that captured them and sold them, but from the people that died to free them. They attack any white man who claims to be proud of his heritage and call THEM racist. They chase after white women like they are some sort of status symbol, and show little respect to women of any race. They've even gotten legislation passed that discriminates against whites when it comes to hiring, while condemning all forms of discrimination as evil. They have black-only schools, black-only scholarships, black-only welfare and assistance programs. But if I were to try to start a white-only school, open a white-only scholarship fund, or white-only welfare or assistance program, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be leading the protests outside my home.

Meanwhile, the PC police sit by while popular culture perpetrates the last acceptable prejudice: Poor rural white folks are stupid and useless.

I'm sick of it. I'm sick of the double-standard that exists in this country. I'm sick of being told that I and all of my children down the generations have to be ashamed for sins committed by people that lived and died hundreds of years before I was born, sins that have been more than atoned for.

Where is all this at you're talking about? I'm white and been around blacks most of my life, and haven't heard even the slightest thing like that. All the blacks I have been around, and that's in a lot of places, treated me with respect. I will agree though, there's going to be those, and that include whites, blacks, and every other color and race you can think of, that will have a different opinion about everyone. So, where's this happening you're talking about? Sure blacks have had a bad history, so has the Indians, and the Chinese in the labor camps during the 1800s, but where's this all coming from, that blacks are treating you like crap?

I can't answer for white and proud.I know blacks that are very nice people.Most of what white and proud is talking about usually happens in the bigger cities.The Democrats wooed the blacks from the Republicans back in the 60's and 70's to get their vote so they could keep their power and control them.Democrats have made black people into wards of the state.They have destroyed the black family.They have lowered the standard of education for blacks.They teach that no black Democrat can possibly be racist but if it is a Republican black then that black is a "uncle tom".Blacks by far have the highest abortion rate and the number of blacks have declined due to abortion,that's something the Democrats don't want you to know.

Some of the things that WHite and proud of it talk about is true.
For example, if we wanted to start programs that where for whites only, heaven forbid. Like he said we would have the likes of Al Sharpton and NAACP on our front steps and lawsuits out the butt.
I also agree with the discrimination remark. I think it is time to do away with affirmative action regarding the races. I think it is a shame that someone who is black get a job over someone that is white, asian, or indian simply because they are black. For example, if a black person applied for a teaching position in Breathitt county, they would have to give it to them regardless of thier qualifications. If a white person applied for the job they wouldn't get it, even if they where more qualified. Why you ask? Affirmative action. We have so few black teachers that we have to hire them. I was told this by several teachers, prinicipals and even a superintendent. All active and have been active in the KEA.
I am white and I am proud of my heritage, but that doesn't mean that I think I am superior in anyway to anyone else regardless of their race, color or creed. There is a difference of being proud of your heritage or race and being some kind of KKK like person.
I also agree that the past needs to be the past. That I shouldn't have to be held accountable and have to pay for things my ancestors done. The same for my kids, grandkids and great grand kids etc...shouldn't be held accountable and have to pay for my mistakes.
Really, I don't know where you have lived to experience that kind of behavior, but let me tell you it is not the majority of blacks behavior. Me and my family have lived everywhere from middle america to the east coast. It has been our experience that the first time something doesn't go thier way, the minorities holler the minority card. By that I mean all minorities regardless of of race.
I don't know if white is a KKK or some other Aryan Brotherhood gang, but they sure sound close to being one. I don't agree with them and never will completely agree with them.

No one should be discriminated against, for a job or anything. No one should get a job or anything like that because of their color, race, or anything else, because it's just not right. If I were hiring, it would be because of their skill, and nothing else. If schools, and I mean any school, hires because of color or race, then that's totally wrong. I have always believed that everyone should be treated equally, and not because they're black, white, or any other color, they should be treated equally. Of course, there are many that would probably disagree with me on that, but that's them, not me.

No white person in our time should feel ashamed for what happened in the past [slavery], unless the past repeats itself [meaning; they support slavery]. I'm white, but I'm not ashamed, one reason, it wasn't my fault, and it wasn't anyone's fault that's living today. But, with that being said, if anyone supports slavery now, then that's totally wrong. Every woman, man, and child in this country, and in this world should be free to choose their future, and the way they live.

I agree with you.People should look at how things came to be this way with the black race.Over 500,000 white men died in a war to end slavery and yet this is never talked about.As someone else has made note of,we need look no further then the Democrat Party and it'a ally the media.We can't trust either one.All they do is keep white guilt going and this is not good because it will bear the fruit of future trouble.

You are absolutely right, but that isn't the way it is. We can thank affirmative action for that. Like I said, I don't feel like we need it anymore. If you are a minority woman, you can name your job and salary. Companies will woo you because they are supossed to have so many women and so many minorities on staff by law. THis way you fill two minorities at once. I even had a black woman professor state this same fact.

Most people think that the Civil War was fought mainly over slavery. That is not accurate though. The main reason the Civil War was fought was because of the politics. The North was an industrial center and they possessed no need for the slaves, where the South was an agricultural center. In the beginning, the government wanted there to be an equal amount of slave states and Free states (hence the Missouri Act). Eventually, that became too difficult to maintain and the new states coming into the Union were allowed popular sovereignty, the people voted between being a slave state or a free state. The majority of the votes will decide the type of the state. When the national government decided to press the issue of riding slaves, the South was furious. This nation was founded on the Articles of Confederation and they gave the States more free will and power. So when the South wanted nothing to do with the national government stepping on their toes (the Constitution gave the States less power) they wanted to legally secede from the Union. The national government said that the states could not secede from the Union. So when Lincoln was elected (elected, not take office), South Carolina (December 20, 1860), followed through with their threat and declared their independence (see a repetitive theme here, first we secede from Britain and now ourselves, Americans are passionate and independent people). Closely following them were Mississippi (January 9), Florida (January 10), Alabama (January 11), Georgia (January 19), Louisiana (January 26), and Texas (February 1) all seceded before Lincoln took office on May 10, 1861 (All of these dates except where noted are in '61). Together, they all formed their own nation known as the Confederate States of America. To what I know, Congress, to this day, has not recognized the CSA as a country. In fact, Congress lists the Civil War as the War of Rebellion and all Union documents referred to the CSA as the states that are in rebellion. When the CSA fired on Fort Sumter, Lincoln did not order war but rather an army to put down this "rebellion". That is how the Civil War started. The national government put its nose into the South's business (don't get me wrong, I DO NOT support slavery but I do support the right to each independent person and state to decided if they want to govern themselves in their own country or in the Union) and in the end, they ended about 700,000 souls. So in the end, the civil war was fought over both but mainly the issue of States' rights.

But you forgot the labor of the Underground Railroad and the friction between northerner and southerner over slavery.The sucession of southern states had a lot to do with the Civil War.If you review Lincoln issued one emancipation in 1862.But the one most famous is the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan.1 1863.But it was fought as States rights too but I believe the core issue was slavery.The country would not have lasted long with states going their own way.

According to Charlie Hollan, no matter what color your skin is we all bleed red. Hence it is okay with him to have mixed marriages. Let me tell you, I own a farm, my goats, hogs, and cattle all bleed red too. So Charlie, and the rest of you clowns who believe in mixed marriages, have fun in the barn yard.

If you're going to use my last name, get it right; "on", like in "Hollon". With that being said; if your son or daughter came home with someone you didn't like: a; throw him/her out, or b; welcome him/her inside your home? With my family, I would welcome him/her into our home. This reminds me of a short poem I once read, which was written by Alfred Lord Tennyson in 1850: "I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all."

I rather for one of my children to have loved, and then have never loved at all. I don't see any wrong in my children marrying whom ever they want, as long as he/she respects my family and home. I know couples right now that are in mixed marriages and been married for years. I also know of couples who married in their same race, and divorced within a year after they were married. If we dictate who our children marry, and then their marriages fail, who is the blame?

Yes, all colors and races bleed red, so does animals, that because of the blood getting mixed with oxygen. But, we're not talking about animals breeding, we're talking about human beings.

By the way, maybe that's why you have goats, cows, and pigs on your farm, no one else will have you.

Guru, you are partly right. The Civil War erupted over the issue of states' rights, namely, the Southern States' rights to keep slavery legal.

And you are partially correct on the status of the CSA wrt the official Union stance. At the beginning of the war, the war was treated as a rebellion, but the Radical Republicans in Congress decided that yes, the CSA had seceded from the Union and had to be re-admitted to the Union under the condition that they ratify the new amendments to the Constitution that banned slavery and gave citizenship to freed slaves once the war was over and Reconstruction began.

Slavery was the central issue behind the Civil War. In fact, I see the "States' rights" issue brought up as the central cause on white supremacist sites and in the writings of slavery apologists to distract from the fundamental truth that a whole generation of Americans sacrificed so much to end slavery.

When it comes to slavery, many only think of blacks being slaves, but there were hundreds of thousands of Scots sold into slavery during Colonial America. White slavery to the American Colonies occurred as early as 1630 in Scotland.
According to the Edgerton manuscript, British Museum, the enactment of 1652: it may be lawful for two or more justices of peace within any county, city or town, corporate belonging to the commonwealth to from time to time by warrant cause to be apprehended, seized on and detained all and every person or persons that shall be found begging and vagrant. In any town, parish or place to be conveyed into the Port of London, or unto any other port from where such person or persons may be shipped into a foreign colony or plantation.
Pope Gregory in the sixth century first witnessed blonde hair, blue eyed boys awaiting sale in a Roman slave market. The Romans enslaved thousands of white inhabitants of Great Britain, who were also known as Angles. Pope Gregory was very interested in the looks of these boys therefore asking their origin.
The eighth to the eleventh centuries proved to be very profitable for Rouen, France. Rouen was the transfer point of Irish and Flemish slaves to the Arabian nations. The early centuries AD the Scottish were known as Irish. William Phillips states that the major component of the slave trade in the eleventh century were the Vikings. They spirited many ‘Irish’ to Spain, Scandinavia and Russia. Legends have it; some ‘Irish’ may have been taken as far as Constantinople.
Slavery was commonly practiced throughout all ancient history, but no other people in history owned so many slaves and depended on them so much as the Romans. Many Romans had white, black, and different races of slaves do their dirty and hard work for them. These slaves were bought and sold in the slave markets. Some slaves were soldiers who had been captured in wars, while others were the children of slave parents. If they tried to run away, they were whipped, burned with iron, and sometimes even killed. Slavery was accepted as part of life in ancient Rome by the slaves themselves and by the society. Little credit had been given to the important contributions slave labor made to Roman civilization. However, slavery was both beneficial and disastrous to ancient Rome.

You can't compare animals to humans.You would know that cattle and hogs don't breed with each other or goats with either one.So what you're saying is pointless.You could say that you don't agree with mixed marriages or you could be an all out racist.Racism is evil.There are blacks and whites that don't want to marry or mix outside their race.They are happy being black or white.They teach their children not to mix outside their race.But they don't hate people of another race.I used to talk quite often with some black people who believed it was wrong to marry outside their race.It was their religous belief.There are many of these black congregations that teach that.

Guru, you seem to know a bit about history, and I hate to keep correcting you on it, but the Angles were a Germanic people that immigrated to the British isles around the same time as the Saxons and the Jutes, AFTER the Roman Occupation ended. The original peoples of the British Isles before the Occupation were of Celtic origin, namely the Brigantes, the Britons (hence the name), the Welsh, Scots, Picts, Irish, and Manx.

Before a person can be proud of their ancestry, they must understand its history.
