One unsolved murder in Breathitt was my great-uncle Carl Hollon. They never did find his body, or solved his murder.

This one happened at Bethany, near breathitt county. There was a lady that ran off from her family. The father took chase and traced her to the river. That was the last she was ever seen. No trace of her, it was thought she jumped into the river where the whirlpool was and she drown. No body, nothing. But the father was a mean old man that liked to beat on his kids. Rumor was he had beat her that day and she ran off. The last name was Faulkner. People speculate that he beat her to death and dumped her body in the river.

Not changing the subject, but you mentioned a whirlpool, can you tell me anything about the whirlpool, you know; is it a large one, stuff like that? The reason I ask is, I've always been fascinated with whirlpools. I've seen some on the internet, but never actually seen one up close and personal. They have one in Europe that has sank a few large boats, it's called "O Sow", a pretty scary site. They have another over in Japan also.

I apologize for the miss spelling of the whirlpool I mentioned; it is call "Old Sow". It is the largest tidal whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere, located off the southwestern shore of Deer Island, New Brunswick, Canada, between that island and Moose Island, the principal island of East-port, Maine.

I don't know how big it is. I have never been back there. Knowing the old timers like I do, it could be just rapids instead of a whirlpool. I have always heard that area called a whirlpool. It is located somewhere up turnip(turn up, not sure how it is on the map) fork area off cave branch road.

My wife told me when she was a little girl, there was a whirlpool om Wide creek, in Breathitt, but she didn't know if it was still there are not. My grandfather on my mother's side once told me he seen one in Indiana back in the 30s that pulled a horse and wagon down under, drowning the horse and losing the wagon, but the man survived.

a forum about unsolved murders or about whirlpools,

I didn't mean for asking about whirlpools to start an up-roar, since the person mentioned whirlpools, I thought I would ask. I fully understand this thread is about unsolved murders in Breathitt, but we don't know if we don't ask.

Back on the subject of murders, my great-uncle's murder wasn't ever solved, even his body wasn't ever found. If anyone has heard anything about this case, I would appreciate any information on it.

I thank GOD every day that My babies will never be on this list of unsolved Murders because of the Things he has showed me and made sure I made it down their to put the Police on those Cold Blooded Murderers Trail. I feel for anyone who has ever lost anyone on here and their Murders are still unsolved. It's horrible to have lost Loved ones and have that emptiness inside. For those that are so eager to take a Life with never no Consequence's for the pain they cause is unlawful. May GOD seek your Vengeance and give you the Justice you so deserve.

I hate to hear all these losses. Charlie, dont worry about it, if u have a question about something then ask. As far as the murders, I know there are alot. Some of the victims prolly no longer have living family members who can talk for them. I hate to hear about your uncle Charlie. I hope it is one day solved. My family has told many stories about, "Cotton." I dont even know his real name. I know he was one of the first black citizens and that cement blocks was tied to him and he was thrown in pambowl. My mother went to school with him and was his friend. It clearly still bothers my family that nothing was done about it. The rumors range from he was killed for dating white girls, this was over 40 years ago, and some say he robbed a local drug dealer who was well known and he had him killed. I dont know. But I think as a county, we should at least learn his name. Nobody seems to know. Not even my family.

I would say they're hundreds of unsolved murders across the country, and most will probably never get solved. I believe I heard something about the " Cotton" murder that you're talking about. It's a terrible thing to have an unsolved murder and can't get closure.

It's mind wreaking to have a close family member murdered and it gets unsolved, and especially when it gets thrown into the "graveyard files", and probably never get taken out unless there's a break in the case.
