Now that is funny. They are a good newspaper, good people who were done wrong by the Times.
Mom 3 Times? All by the same daddy? I didn't think so

when there is a merger, there are always layoffs due to duplicate positions. I understand why the new paper kept Jeff Noble and let Bobby Thorpe go, because Jeff's a better journalist than Bobby. But I don't understand why they kept John Boggs. I'd have preferred Bobby over him. The Voice bought the Times so the new owners had the right to keep whomever they wanted off the old Times staff and get rid of whom they wanted.

You are what most people call CLUELESS. 1st off, the Jackson Times Voice is owned and operated by the Nolan Group out of London Kentucky. The Voice DID NOT BUY THE TIMES. If you cared to read the Voice's own article on the merger, they clearly tell you they are owned by the Nolan group, so the Voice did not buy crap.
The Voice was going under. The Nolan Group has been trying to buy them for 2 years. I hate it when tards that think they know something, and don't know shiet. As for Jeff Noble being a better journalist, well that is debatable as well. They kept them two, Noble & Boggs, because they both know how to write fiction. Next time you get on a website and post nonsense, get your facts straight so you don't look like a total moron.

You almost sound like you know what you are talking about. ALMOST. You made one glaring mistake in your post that makes it sound like you know what you are talking about to the casual observer, but to knowledgeable persons shows you're guessing at stuff.
The Voice bought the Times. There were three big conditions for that sale. One was that Glenn Gray go on the board of directors of the new corporation that runs the merged papers. If the Times had bought the Voice, James Fugate would not have been named publisher of the paper. Glenn Gray would have continued to be publisher. No, his name was not officially listed as publisher of the Times, I think Jeanne Dzierzek still had that tile on the masthead, but make no mistake, Gray was the de facto publisher.
Two was that the paper be housed in the Times office, since it was owned by the Times and was one of the assets transferred when Louise Hatmaker sold out 20 or so years ago. Louise and her daughter Cindy owned the building through a company separate from the newspaper and the newspaper paid rent to the property holding company. Louise sold both the paper and the building when she got out of the newspaper business. It would make no sense for the Nolans to continue to own the building and the merged paper still rent over in North Jackson Plaza.
Three was the merged paper be printed at J. Frank Publishing Co. in London.(There's your glaring error exposed. HQ for the Nolan Group is in Manchester, where the Manchester Enterprise is published. The printing plant is in London, which is a central location to where all their papers are located.)
If any paper was going under, it was the Times. The Times suffered from absentee ownership. Ad revenues were declining. And the paper looked God-awful and the stories weren't much better. The Voice was much better written and laid out. Plus, the Voice was within 100 papers of average weekly circulation of taking the legal ads away from the Times, and probably would have done so this year. Legal ads were what was keeping the Times afloat, if they had lost the legals it would have been disaster for them.
There's a reason the merged paper kept the Voice's look and most of its staff, and sent the Times' appearance and several of the staffers off into the night. That kind of decision is usually reserved for the acquirer in a transaction, not the acquiree. The story in the Voice didn't say that the Nolan Group had bought the Voice, it said that Glenn Gray was joining the board of the new publication. I don't have the paper in front of me to see the name of the publishing company so I can't verify what it's called now.
At least maybe that tool O.H. Napier will be out of print for awhile, unless the new newspaper gives him a column. I don't think he's writing for the Times-Voice and someone needs a laurel and hearty handshake for that decision. He is as bad as the fictional "Sam Satchel" of Times lore who wrote about eating poke sallet and having diarrhea.

I CALL MAJOR BULL SHIET!!
Talk about tools, you are a complete dumbass. The Jackson Times Voice is Owned by Jay Nolan and associates, if you do not believe me, call for yourself,(six o six - eight six two - Eighty one hundred), ask for Jay Nolan.
All the things you quoted fall under intermountain Publishing listed here in Jackson whose parent company is the J Nolan Group. The only reason they are spouting that crap is to try to get people to believe they are locally owned, they were not. As for Circulation numbers, the Voice was closer to 500 behind the Times. It was a purchase by the Nolan group to rid themselves of a competitor. Any more fiction you would like to write about.Their sales are down by the hundreds as of last week. Maybe you would like to talk to your delivery drivers, they seem to know your actual store sales, and they aint good.
Any other falsehoods you would like to spread, give me a yell, I can give you the truth.

Go back to last October and look at the post office statements the papers printed. There you can see the certified and sworn circulation numbers for the year October 2007-October 2008. I can't speak to what the current sales numbers are as I have no access to them.

If this was a purchase by Nolan to be rid of a competitor, then why does the merged paper look exactly like the competitor and not a thing like the old Times? Riddle me that, Batman.

Go to the Voice last article. It gives info on the merger and then right below it, it lists the newspapers that Nolan owns and it included the Times. Also go to secretary of state website, and then the KY State department of taxation. The Nolan Group is the owner of them and about 8 other newspaper. Also it has been know for a long time that both the Times and Voice fudge their numbers. Neither of them actually sell 1/2 of what they claim. It is a numbers game. The last time the Voice got close and wanted the legals, the Times asked the court to have the Voice prove their numbers, the Voice withdrew their request for the legals.
It matters not that we are going back & forth, the fact is the Times Voice is owned by the Nolan Group. As for them bringing in the Voice crew, mark this down, James David, Jeff Noble & Johnny Boggs will be gone before 2 years. Nolan only agreed to keep them for 18 months. Hide and watch.

To get the legals, you must hold a second-class mailing permit and, if I'm not mistaken, must have held it for a specified period of time (one year possibly, two years possibly, I'm not positive). The statement of ownership and circulation published each October is the definitive statement as to who gets the legal ads and that is published by papers that have a second-class mailing permit. The Advocate is not selling subscriptions now. It does not have a second-class mailing permit and by law won't be eligible to have one for a little while. The legals won't be moving to the Advocate anytime soon and I'd venture to guess that the Advocate won't survive long enough to be eligible to get the legal ads away from the Times-Voice.

I am sure they appreciate your compliment, but coming from a chicken shiet hiding behind a computer screen, your post don't mean much. Call them any time if you want to talk. If you are going to post like a coward, noone will take you serious. Post your name if you are man enough, or should I say woman enough. Give them a call. Any fagg can hide behind a computer and talk someone down. Little queers like you attack people on a computer because you don't have the nuts to do it using your name or face to face. The Breathitt VOICE is the worst selling newspaper in Breathitt County. The numbers do not lie.

Where in the post by Wiz did you see where it said the Advocate was closing in on the legals?
See people like you who think they know something do not know Shiet. The KY Mountain News is at or above the sales of the Voice, they have a Postal Periodical based in Jackson, and they have been doing subscriptions for over three years. Hmmm I think maybe the Wiz's post may have been hinting at him getting the legals. Hey, keep on looking in the other direction, do not worry about that man behind the curtain.
The Wiz is alot smarter than you all give him credit for. While you all are watching one hand, the Advocate, the other hand is quietly making some moves.
The Mountain News numbers have went up over 50% since the merger, best thing to happen to them.
You all keep looking the other way.
