I largely agree with David Brooks:
MR. DAVID BROOKS (Columnist, New York Times, on Meet the Press today): Yeah. Well, first, letís say whatís happening in Washington right now is pathetic. When you think about what the revolutionary generation did, what the Civil War generation did, what the World War II generation did, we're asking not to bankrupt our children and we've got a shambolic, dysfunctional process. Now I think most of the blame still has to go to the Republicans. They've had a brain freeze since the election. They have no strategy. They don't know what they want. And they haven't decided what they want. But if I had to fault President Obama, I would say that sometimes heís-- governs like a-- a visitor from a morally superior civilization. He comes in here and he will not-- he-- he'll talk with Boehner, he won't talk with the other Republicans. He hasn't built the trust. Boehner actually made a pretty serious concession, 800 billion dollars in tax revenues, probably willing to go up on rates. But the trust wasn't there to get that done. And if the president wants to get stuff done over the next four years, it's got to be a lot more than making the intellectual concessions. Itís got-- got to get to the place where Republicans say, okay, weíll take a risk. This guy wonít screw us.... They donít feel that right now.
I blame Obama and Reid.
So those many photo's of the President meeting with Boehner, McConnell and Eric Cantor in the Whitehouse are what? Photoshoped?.....The biggest hindrance to enacting a legislative deal, to avoid this fiscall cliff and aid the continuance of our economic recovery, has been and is the "TEA PARTY" House republicans....Every honest national poll has shown, that the american citizens are well aware of that fact, and it can't be spun anymore......

Congress and Axelrod/Farrett's incompetent trained suit sent America over the cliff.

You bet Americans still out of work in the Obama Economy will remember in 2014 how their pockets were emptied by $1 trillion in hidden ObamaScare taxes foisted on them.

Sequestration? It's a good start at slashing Fedzilla back down to size.

We'll keep slashing and burning next year and the year after that, until fed spending is cut back below 18% of GDP.

You will remember whatever the troll-masters tell you to remember.

The best thing about the Tea Party is that neither of the DC phony parties want it around. They are both scared, actually.

Truth has a way of doing that to politicians.

You wouldn't understand, troll-in-a-hole.

The only tea party I saw was a couple of nut jobs yelling at cars a few years ago in front of the post office. They had potty mouths and every one just hurried by.

Pleasant crack dreams, Lindie. You and PL should exchange alternate realities for a change of pace.

The TEA Party is not a political party in the way the GOP, Democratic, Libertarian, Conservative, Green, etc. parties are. They do not run candidates or TEA Party tickets for political office.

They are a special-interest lobbying group - no different than the AARP, NRA, PETA, Code Pink, JDL, or any other, promoting a specific narrow special-interest agenda.

There is no TEA Party caucus and there are no members of Congress who were on a legal ballot as candidates of a party called the "TEA Party." The TEA Party has no responsibility whatsoever "to govern," and it is the epitome of silly nonsense to suggest that they do.

There are only two parties in Washington that do bear that responsibility - the Democrats, the Democrats, and the Republicans.

Elections have consequences. Your Blue guys won. Yayyyy. Now it's for THEM to govern. You seem disenchanted with your choice, and for good reason. Eat your peas, kid.

Teddy R got it exactly right. The "Tea Party" is not a branch of the Republican party. They just happen to be closer to them than they are to Dems.

As for the "entire press corps [being] wrong for several years".....that's about right.

First, I must point out the obvious fact that there no longer exists in this country a "press corps" worthy of the title, or being regarded as journalists. The "press corps" we once enjoyed has been essentially replaced by a media "info-tainment" industry populated, with a few rare exceptions, by partisan polemicists and entertainers masquerading as serious and informed commentators - on BOTH sides of the political spectrum. Only a fool pays any attention at all to the ridiculous infotainment spew manufactured by the "press corps" on any issue - and so I couldn't care less.

But to answer your question - yes, the entire press corps (but most egregiously the liberal wing of what you are pleased to call the "press corps" - which amounts to about 85% of it) has been wrong for several years about the "TEA Party" (you really must learn to capitalize "TEA" yourself) simply because they have no interest in being factually correct, and it has served their larger entertainment mission to manufacture and flog bullshyte memes to a slack-jawed audience as if they were commentating at an NFL game.

"Press corps??" You're a funny guy ...

The so-called "fiscal cliff" is the agreement Obama negotiated with the Congress and which he gleefully signed into law. Now, that the appointed date is upon us, he reneges. So much for African rule.

The TEA Party is very much alive after this travesty being foisted upon the American people:

"CBO:'Fiscal cliff' deal carries $4 trillion price tag over next decade"
By Peter Schroeder - 01/01/13 02:07 PM ET

"The Senate deal to avoid the "fiscal cliff" will add roughly $4 trillion to the deficit when compared to current law, according to new numbers from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO)."
