"So for those of you keeping score at home – locking down an American city: a proper reaction to the threat from one terrorist. A background check to prevent criminals or those with mental illness from purchasing guns: a dastardly attack on civil liberties."

<quoted text>I'd like the President to LEAD this country, instead of staying in campaign mode forever. Fulfilling campaign promises would be nice too, to prove that he was sincere, and not just saying whatever he thought would gain him votes.
What would I like the President to do? Here's a few ideas just for starters.
- Reduce the deficit
- Cut federal spending
- End foreign aid to countries that hate us, and always will, despite our generosity
- Fix entitlements like Social Security and Medicare so they'll be solvent for future retirees
- Tell Harry Reid to let the Senate vote on a budget (which the Senate didn't do for the first 4 years Obama was in office).
- Do away with Obamacare, which even his fellow Democrats are backing away from, now that it's true costs are finally becoming apparent.
- Call Islamic terrorists what they are, terrorists, instead of calling their attacks "workplace violence" as the Administration did after Fort Hood
- Secure our borders, instead of just talking about it
- Tell Eric Holder to enforce all federal laws, instead of picking and choosing which ones to enforce based upon political expediency
- Instead of criminalizing millions of law abiding Americans who acquired guns lawfully and use them responsibly, deal with the real causes behind gun violence, namely, criminals and the mentally ill (which the shooters at Newtown, Aurora, Tucson, Virginia Tech, and virtually all other mass shootings were).
That's just for starters. I'm sure others will have things to add to this list.
Like I said: "You want him to do whatever you Republicans want, right?

He's a Democrat and handily beat your Republican candidate mouth breathers in two consecutive elections. Democrats added to the Senate and the House and because you jerks are unpatriotic and ignorant of how our political system works you whine about how he's not going to follow your little list. You guys are thugs and bullies and should be participating in compromise as has always been done, not holding the country hostage with your little hissy fits.

He's being recalcitrant because the stooges of the Republican party have vowed to prevent him from having any kind of success. At all. None.

90% of the American public wants background checks on gun purchases. What's your answer to that? You make up a lie about criminalizing lawful gun owners. Just because your only source of information comes from Elmer Gantry styled hustlers doesn't mean you can come on a public forum and pass that b.s. off for fact.

You're stupid but that doesn't mean everyone's stupid.

joe, you're an angry little ignorant punk.

Educate yourself on how our political system works.

The US is not a democracy. It is a Republic of 50 Sovereign State governments and their Peoples, with a federal government strictly limited in its power by design, precisely to protect the nation from extremist majorities spun up by populist demagogues.

And this is how it works. Grow up and get over it.

We won't be a Constitutional Republic for long at this rate... two bombs go off in Boston and immediately the 1st & 4th Amendment are ripped to shreds.

Idiots and traitors like joe immediately applaud the destruction of the Constitution because they have bought in to the propaganda aimed at relieving us of our Constitutional rights.

I'll say it again... I find it absolutely astounding that Americans line up to GIVE AWAY the rights that they have that people everywhere else in the world would LOVE TO HAVE. All in the name of partisan politics... it's insanity.

Another typical smug and condescending response from you. I can come on this or any other forum and say whatever I like, genius, because this is still a free country. Funny how libs like you profess to be all for freedom, but then try to stifle dissent when others have the temerity to hold different opinions on the issues. If anyone is acting like "thugs and bullies", it's you and your comrades on the left, which is very evident from the tone and language of your posts.

The things I mentioned are concerns that all Americans should have, but your twisted partisan mind can't deal with anyone who might have opposing views from yours. "Unpatriotic"? I served my country honorably for over 3 decades. What have you done, Mr. Patriot?

Finally, regarding my comments about criminalizing lawful gun owners, that's no lie. If you actually paid attention to the news, you'd learn that's just what happened recently in NY, when new laws outlawed magazines that contained more than 7 rounds of ammunition (with no exceptions, even for cops!), among other things. Thousands of New Yorkers who legally acquired and possessed magazines holding 10 rounds or more were criminalized at the stroke of a pen. It was pushed through without being read by most legislators, or even allowing public comments (like Obamacare) so our idiot Governor Andrew Cuomo could capitalize on the Newtown tragedy for political advantage. He then had to backtrack, however, because no major gun manufacturer even makes 7 round magazines, and it thus outlawed equipment issued to and carried by NY cops. Unlike you, I know what I'm talking about on this issue.

Oh, I'm so sorry to have gotten Little Teddy's little girl panties all in a twist. And he sounds plenty angry. Watch those arteries, coot.

As to your absolutist description of our form of government you are nothing if not a true tea party trooper, are 'ya? You guys just can't abide the true nature of the American system. Republic and Democracy are descriptions of two different things (one is a "form" of government, the other is the "system" of government). The Soviet Union, was a republic, but not a democracy. India, is a democracy not a republic. The US is both. N. Korea is neither.

The president is elected through the electoral college system instead of by direct vote so he can be a split between the senate and the house (the states and the population). The electoral college's purpose is one of the most misunderstood in political science. We live in a republic (states are self governing under the umbrella of a centralized or federal government). The type of system we utilize is a representative form of democracy (meaning the people vote for people to represent their views instead of directly participating in every bit of legislation). This was done to weigh the needs of the people (the house of representatives) in balance with the needs of the states (the senate).

I know you clods need to have everything simplified (as per your childish post) but your beliefs aren't the same as the truth. And your self-serving description of republic is never really what you have in mind you thugs are in power, now is it? I remeber Bush talking about "spending his political capital" after the 2004 election.'Member that? "The a restoration, if you will, of the power and authority of the president"?

Again with the grand display of both ignorance and deceit. You and your like are too stupid for subtlties like irony, I guess. If you had botherered to read the post correctly, or even followed the link you'd have seen that it was meant as ironic:

It's called irony. Now pull your head out of Teddy' azs and pay attention or I'll have to have you write on the board what it really means to be a patriot not the kind that announces themselves on anonymous forum's as patriots.

Hmmm, here's some staggering info:

The National Employment Law Center (NELP) has published a list of the 50 U.S. companies who have the most low wage workers. While not all of these companies pay the exact minimum wage they all pay very close to the wage floor. As you can see by the list, the companies listed also share a common trait of being massive, successful companies making major profits. Perhaps their universally low labor costs have something to do with that trend?

Despite the perception that minimum wage jobs are often held by teenage workers entering the job market, numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicate that 49 percent of minimum wage workers are adult women, many of whom have children.

As expected, America’s largest employer, Wal-Mart, tops the list. NELP’s study looks into the genetic makeup of this dishonorable mention, and notes the majority (66 percent) of low‐wage workers are not employed by small businesses, but rather by large corporations where top executive compensation averaged $9.4 million.

The 50 largest employers of low‐wage workers have largely recovered from the recession and most are in strong financial positions: 92 percent were profitable last year; 78 percent have been profitable for the last three years; 75 percent have higher revenues now than before the recession; 73 percent have higher cash holdings; and 63 percent have higher operating margins(a measure of profitability).

$174.8 billion to shareholders in dividends or share buybacks over the past five years.

The largest companies in America have, for the most part, recovered from the recession while their workers are still feeling its entire effects. It is safe to say that we should soundly reject the argument that raising the minimum wage would harm large corporations. They don’t know harm well enough to claim it.

It's called greed. Greed of the worst and most short-sighted and destructive kind.

What you middle income right-wingers don't comprehend is that extremely rich people don’t send their kids to public schools, visit public parks or ride public transit. These wealthy folks don’t need public services and resent having to pay taxes to support them. Austerity works for these wealthy Americans. Not so much for you.

Scott Walker's Amazing Turn Around of Wisconsin's Economy:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce annual scorecard on state economies ranked Wisconsin 44th for overall economic performance and 50th—as in dead last—for short-term job growth as measured between September 2010 and November 2012. It also has Wisconsin 39th in “business climate.

Truth and economic reality doesn't matter, after all he decimated the unions, right?

Wasn't Obama elected to "change" that?

Obama and the politicians on the left, just like the politicians on the right, ONLY care about the big banks, Wall Street, and the ultra-wealthy... but the left pays lip service to the middle & lower classes... so it's better (in your mind). Not in reality though.

The longer average Americans are distracted by petty, political football left/right squabbles... the longer BOTH sides have to destroy the middle class while increasing the power and wealth of the 1%.

If you can't see that BOTH sides are doing exactly that... you're not paying attention.

Start? And, as you proclaimed, you want to kill Obamacare and replace it with.... Nothing. Those who can't afford the most expensive health insurance in the world should, as an audience in Texas declared at one of the Republican primary debates, let them just die.

If you're trying to change the status quo I'd like to hear your method. All you do is support the right wing agenda, trash the left and then proclaim how un-biased and objective you are. Get a clue, the left may not be as effective as they could be but the right has turned into goose-stepping fascists.

I was pointing out the FACT that your declared patriotism is just so much bullsh*t. It doesn't mean anything on an anonymous forum such as this. It's merely self-serving and un-provable. Get it? It's telling people you're a patriotic American by wearing a little metal flag on your lapel.

And what intransigence are you referring to when you say "my side" doesn't give an inch"? Never-mind, I'm pretty sure that fox doesn't report that and you have no other source of information it's plain to see.

So good luck granpa. Keep a stiff upper lip and keep telling everyone how patriotic you are as you do everything in your meager power to bring down this country. Disgusting.
