More wood (killing trees), more steel and more concrete is not green.

A potted plant by the doorman or the rooftop garden doesn't count.

Instead of cloaking yourself in anonymity, WHERE do you live, and what kind of a home do YOU live in?

I'll bet she lives in a single family home surrounded by a large front and back yard with trees and gardens. Nice if you can get it. Low carbon footprint.

Actually, suburban lawns contribute most of the pesticide runoff into local streams and ponds. And suburban cars and driveways provide most of the petro-garbage runoff. The only "green" in suburbia is the pond scum.

When they did those scare stories in the 60s about DDT, it was actually the growth of suburbs that did the environmental damage, not DDT.

But no politician was going to bad mouth the biggest tax windfalls in world history.

Sorry, honey, but most suburban lawns use no pesticides. Are you saying a New York City apartment building surrounded by concrete is greener than a house surrounded by grassy lawn?

You want the entire country covered in apartment buildings to make a greener world? lol

When Rachel Carson wrote in the 1960s, lawn chemicals in suburbia WERE the biggest problem. And the biggest threat to the bird population wasn't DDT, it was suburban deforestation, lawn chemicals and petro chemical runoff into small ponds and creeks.

Sort of makes sense. When you quintuple the human population, whatever was there before kind of suffers.

8 million people on 303.7 square miles of land (NYC) does less damage to the environment than 3 million on 1207 square miles (LI).

Ask the birds.
