Who offers him 8 years Paulie? Yanks need to resist the temptation here of biding against themselves.
Who? Angels, Dodgers just to mention a couple....they think Cano is a superstar and will pay him like one at Boris demand.....Arte Moreno is the new George Steinbrenner....he stops at nothing.....sky is the limit on his spending.....here's another scenario Fu.....If Hal's thinking is we give Cano what he wants and we can't afford to do nothing else than by all means trade Cano right now and get a good needed package in return......bottom line Fu....Cano and Boris are looking for allot of money and years and I said 6-8 years not 8 or more but anyhow if Hal resigns him which I'm hoping for and he doesn't stop right there....he still spends on getting whats needed.....doubt that happens and if so and he already knows.....than its time to trade Cano......

Yanks keep Cano and he gets $25 million. Granderson, Andy, Kuroda and Mo are all gone after 2013, thats 50 million right there.

By 2014 hopefully one of the young OFers and pitchers step up.

No need to worry about that this off season Fu....Hal went the other way...he's now penny pinching.....sure killed him in the long run giving ARod that 275M deal for 10 years after he opt out in 2007......I know I said back then let the overrated ARod go and go after Lowell at the time for allot less......that was a clear cut definition of outbidding themselves.....no one and I mean mo one was gonna give ARod anywhere near what hank and Hal gave him.....and Hank and Hal didn't even wait to see what other offers ARod was gonna get.....they just pounced on it right away and now regretting it....and sticking it to the fans as a result......I've said let ARod deal be done with before getting team salary down to the 189M mark to avoid the big time luxury tax deal....that's the screwing they deserve after giving ARod that ridiculous deal.....

Yeah but you have to replace Grandy, Andy, Mo and Kuroda with some other high price FA.....problem here is ARod Fu...he's getting roughly 27M a year against that 189M team payroll goal for 5 more years counting this year and he's all washed up....sure it would be great if ARod has balls and retires and that's not gonna happen.....Yanks are stuck.....and Hal should have to pay the price (luxury tax) if he wants to afford to keep Yanks a contender and he charging a mint right now for good seats at the stadium not just great ones.....and that's not coming down bad team or not.....and he also got a great deal from the Yes network too.....now greed is getting in the way.....not good for the fans.....

That probably why he is not traded. I think they sign cano however.
NYY in a no win regarding Cano. Teams know they can hold out waiting for Cano to go FA without having to trade their best assets. His agent is known for taking his clients to FA & start the bidding war...

There will be teams (LAD, to name 1) that have big money to spend. His agent has "unique" relationships with at least 3 owners who would have no issue give up a draft pick & the slot money for Cano...

Hal has to spend to keep him. At least 7 years with an easily attainable vested option for 1+ years is the starting point. The money is secondary...

Along with Cano's big awaited deal...Hal also has to be ready and spend elsewhere to keep the team a contender as the Yanks are an already old team in allot of areas with a few good prospects a year or 2 away from hitting the bigs as the Yanks move forward.....if this off season was any indication of how the Yanks spend money or trading in needs to get better......than things are not looking good in the near future in the Bronx.......hopefully Hal gets over this must have team payroll thing at 189M by 2014 or the Yanks are in trouble.....

If they don't outspend teams by at least 50 million dollars they're incapable of competing, it could be last place for them for years to come. Are you Jimi-Yanks boyfriend ?

NYY hasn't had any drafts producing an impact player since Jeter in 1992. Their drafts over the last 10+ years hasn't produced anything close to that. Think their scouting philosophy needs to change. That would start by firing Damon Oppenheimer & bring in someone that knows how to organize a MLB scouting department...

Don't see any impact FA's for the 2014 season...

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/02/2014-ml...

George was able to spend his way out of the lack of prospects by using FA. Current CBA restricts teams from signing FA's because a team loses not only the draft pick, but also the slot money to potentially use on another draftee. Teams are reluctant to give up that money...

George also had a good nucleus around that team too....a piece here and there kept that team competing for the WS yearly.....only problem was give George a superstar name and he went out and got it.....never mind shoulder problems (Jaret Wright)....attitude problems (Raul Mondesi, Gary Sheffield) or washed up pitchers (Kevin Brown, Randy Johnson) But now farm system has a few good prospects here and there but allot were overrated such as Phil Hughes, Joba, Ivan Nova, Ian Kennedy, Dioner Navarro, Austin Jackson.....the list goes on......soon or a later patchwork fails......but the Yanks even as old as they are still have a good patchwork team.....that needs a power hitting OF.....retaining Russell Martin....Pirates gave him 17M over 2 years and Hal refused to match it.....good quality utility infielder and a corner infielder......DH's may come from ST hopefuls not a major concern....and who knows how far they go.....
