<quoted text>Detroit's problems aren't new or surprising. Doesn't "Robocop" take place in Detroit? That was made years ago. It must have been a movie before it's time.
And wasn't Detroit just given a new fiscal czar appointed by the Governor of Michigan because it's bankrupt and so badly managed by it's Mayor and City Council? Here's another question - why are the worst cities in America virtually all controlled by Democrats?
The truth may hurt, but it's still the truth.
Yes. The Governor did assign a Emergency Financial Manager, who basically strips power from the City Council and the Mayor and gives that one individual to re-write any contract that the city has, including those with the unions. The truth is that the democrats have destroyed Detroit. Compare the photos of Nagasaki or Hiroshima Japan today to Detroit in 1946, and then compare Detroit today to those cities in 1946. See any similarities?

The similarities are all too apparent! Thanks for the information. It's good to hear from someone with real knowledge of the long term problems of Detroit, while other posters refuse to acknowledge this sad reality. Unfortunately, Detroit isn't the only U.S. city ruined by Democrats who have held power for too long, including Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Camden, Newark, Oakland, New Orleans, and numerous others. The truth may hurt, but it's still the truth.

Nothing personal, but I disagree. The economy is far from well, despite a few positive signs that you point to. I just pointed out that things aren't quite as rosy as you seem to feel, almost 5 years into this Administration. As far as "blinders", the same can be said of those who gloss over the troubles we still face.

Or maybe the main guy responsible should be spending more of his time on Job #1 - on economic factor's that haven't shown enough improvement - assuming he even had a clue what to do - which he doesn't:

race also has alot to do with it.
look at the race of the majority of people living there in those cities and who they voted into office and why....if they had a black republican running for office promising them things, they would vote for him too...

I disagree. If they had a black republican they would have to destroy him. Lynch him the way the democrat party used to do. The democrats cannot allow a single black republican to gain popularity or power. They have to keep them on the plantation still, until they can sucker enough latinos to be loyal to the party where the blacks don't matter so much. Until then, blacks will continue to be stupid enough to continue voting 95% for the party that has spent decades keeping them down.

"Glass half empty"? Perhaps, but I like to believe that I'm just being realistic rather than overly optimistic. On the other hand, aren't those who point to a few positive indicators as proof of an economic recovery really just saying the "glass is half full"?

Your talking about my town now ZC and you don't know crap. I have no doubt that the democrats and liberal policy making along with the union strangle hold crushed Detroit. I watched it happen since the 70's. It will come back though, and it won't be government that gets it done. It will be the likes of Danny Gilbert, who is spending millions buying up downtown properties, including the Greektown Casino. There is the young Illitch's from the Little Ceasers Empire, and Pete Karmanos from Compuware. Throw in the Fords and some other big money, and most importantly, move thousands of young, college educated whites into the city. City government in Detroit is and has been broken and dysfunctional for decades. The private sector just "donated" new cop cars, EMS, and ambulances to the city because the old crap was falling apart. O'Reilly and Jesse Waters were not to far off in their report, and Danny Gilbert should be overjoyed that was the story, because in five years Detroit will be a story that will be told all over the world.

We already know the truth ZC. It's your side pretending they don't know. Just like the President blatantly lying about not knowing his administration has threatened survivors of the Benghazi attack to keep them from telling the rest of us the truth. Your not interested in the truth, only the spin. Thats what they pay you for.

Benghazi will be the defining moment of his presidency. 46% of Americans polled believe a cover up has taken place. A cover up of what? Incompetence.
