Open adoption records

Adult adoptees have a right to know who they are. And birth mothers, whose babies were taken from them in the '40s,'50s, and '60s have been ignored for far too long. Adoption was once considered a solution to disgrace, at a time when there were virtually no options for unwed mothers to get help keeping their babies. Times have changed, and it's time for the law to catch up. Personal information that most take for granted is denied to law-abiding citizens, whose only fault was making an irrevocable decision at an impossible time. Adoptees who feel incomplete and want to find blood relatives aren't able to. Please, if you recognize the injustice in permanently closed adoption records, contact your state legislator and urge him/her to vote in favor of bill A8910. It's time to end the silence.
