Review: Terrapin Tile

I hired Terrapin Tile to grout a brick wall I had put up. They visited my house, stated it was easily doable, and should take about one day. On the day that the work was to be done, I returned home at noon to find that they had smeared grout all over the face of the brick, ruining a section of the wall.

Fortunately, a small section is all they did. They had left without making any attempt to contact me and left a note basically saying "Sorry, this job is bigger than we thought. Goodbye."

A tile contractor should know not to smear grout over a brick face because once grout fills the crevasses of the brick, it is nearly impossible to remove. The wall I spent months meticulously putting up was ruined in about an hour.

I now have to purchase more bricks to replace the ones they ruined, tear out everything they did, and redo it all myself. I will NEVER use Terrapin Tile or Tom Owens again.

P.S. - As an addendum to my previous review, the owner of Terrapin Tile emailed me in an extremely confrontational and unprofessional letter calling me names, insulting me, and being generally childish and unprofessional. I will soon be submitting a report about this to the Better Business Bureau.

That's very strange. I've used Tom on several projects and have enjoyed working with him every time. I've given his name out to my friends and family and have only heard great things about the work he has done for them. It's a shame to hear something like this about such a good contractor and wonder if this is really how all of this went down? I guess we'll never know.
