The fatal car wreck when a whole wedding party was killed when their limo was smashed into a guy drag racing and he may have been drunk also. Just curious whatever happened to that case and if the guy served time for that horrible tragedy

A driver whose speeding car crashed into a wedding party's limousine, killing the bride, groom and best man, was found guilty today of three counts of criminally negligent homicide.

The families of the victims burst into applause as the verdict was read in the courtroom.

The defendant, Vincent Laezza, 21 years old, of Selden, was acquitted of manslaughter and of assault in the injuring of the limousine driver in the collision on April 3, 1987.

He was also convicted of one count of second-degree assault for seriously injuring the bride's sister.

The maximum sentence for criminally negligent homicide is one and a third to four years in prison. The sentence for assault can be two and a half to seven years.

The crash - less than an hour after the couple were married - killed the bride, Carol Zagorski Phillips; her husband, Peter Phillips, and Mr. Phillips's brother, John, who had been best man for the wedding. Two Weeks of Testimony

The bride's sister, Debra Zagorski, and the driver, Thomas Quinn, were injured in the crash.

The jury had listened to two weeks of testimony and started deliberations this morning.

Mr. Laezza was said to have been drag racing at up to 100 miles an hour on Lido Boulevard in Lido Beach when he hit the limousine as it was turning into the Sands Catering Hall for the wedding reception.

The speed limit on the boulevard was 35 miles an hour, according to a prosecutor, George Peck.

Mr. Laezza was remanded to the Nassau County Jail until his sentencing, which is scheduled for Oct. 14. During the trial, he had been free on $750,000 bail.

In closing arguments Wednesday, Mr. Laezza's lawyer, Eugene Shaffer, told the jury that Mr. Quinn caused the accident by making a sudden left turn across Mr. Laezza's path.

Don't worry about Lola, fathrn58, we all care about this tragedy. It was so sad and touched everyone so deeply. That is why I was happy to post the details (which is public information)about the drag racer. He may have done his time and moved on, but there are so many others who are unable to move on. That makes the events of that day so much more intense.

It was and still is one of the saddest, nightmarish and horrific things I've ever heard. May God bless them and their families. May this Laezza guy get violently ill every time he sees his reflection. And say hello to Satan you irresponsible douchebag.

I remember reading this in newsday in 1987. 25 years later and it still gets to me. It could happen to anyone. Things that people only have nightmares about came true for the unfortunate families.

And to read and post this story and then to comment "Who Cares" makes me think quite a few things about a person who is that ignorant and cold...but I can not say them here...But I can say one thing...they need prayer!

The killer lives in Florida and is engaged. I remember vividly when this tragedy happened, and they will never be forgotten. May they forever rest in peace and may Laezza be reminded of the lives he destroyed every day of his life, especially on his wedding day!!

I remember that accident like it was yesterday how horrible. It was sheer stupidity that the driver was going 100 miles when the speed limit was 35. The bride and groom were never given a chance to live their lives.I remember reading that the best man was married at the time and had two small children 3 people loss their lives and it destroyed the lives of countless other people. I always wondered what happened to the brides sister how did she cope after the accident? May the driver live with this for the rest of his life. As for you LOLA let just hope nothing like this happens to you or a member of your family. The happiest day of two people lives turns into a tragedy that now others have to live with.

OMG I was just listening to the song 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' and to this day I think of that couple and it brings me to tears. I had only been married less than a year and it left a memory in me that I will never forget. I looked up the song today and it had hit #1 in the US the day after the crash so no wonder why I have always thought of them when hearing it. I am certain they are together in heaven!!!

If my name doesn't seem too common...ill help you.

Im John Phillips' son. I was 3 years old when this happened. I never got the opportunity to know who my father was, thanks to that asshole.

Im all about people making mistakes, as i've been stupid in my own life many of times....however, to even question the limo drivers decision of making the left in front of laezza (as ive seen on other forums(not necessarily this one)) is disgusting.

If anyone has his information, i would love to get in touch with him. I wish him no harm, as he has to wake up every day knowing what he has done...but i would personally like to sit with him, and discuss that day with him.

I too have a fast car, which i dont drive like an asshole around others, but i need to see what the F went through his head to make that decision of over 100 in a 30.

Ryanphi11ips@yahoo.com

I will probably never look at this site again, as much as i appreciate the well wishes and heartfelt concern for my family, those who try and justify this, be it few and far between, should try and walk in my shoes.

This douchebag is a forklift operator at Costco in Florida. Clearly he didn't get an education for the short time he was in the can and he has to live with his measly $8/hour job. I guess he'll always be a loser.
