Ther no brainer is that a computer model and predictions should be the basis for screwing with peoples lives and forcing them to pay for something that may or may not happen. The entire Island could flood depending on the severity of the storm, so are you going to force every homeowner to buy flood insurance. The insurance companies took a beating in the south and are now looking for ways to re-coup for that loss. I say all the homeowners should refuse. Whats the county going to do, evict them ? Screw teh county, screw the insurance companies and especially screw the Flood Man for using fear to get people to buy insurance they dont really need.

Wind/wave wash is a potential reality on LI, especially on the South Shore. If you live on any sort of estuary or canal, the water will be pushed up by a storm (hurricane, but probably a nor' easter) and with nowhere for it to go, it will flood the shores. The building in the past decades on LI have eliminated many of the buffer zones that have stopped or helped disperse the water. That is our own fault. All of you who blame the government are misguided in that fact that they are making you by flood insurance. Mortgage companies require Homeowners and if in flood zone, flood insurance. If your home gets destroyed by water, you are not covered under your basic homeowners. Most companies also now have a wind deductible. FYI-2 ft above ground level is nothing. Look at Galveston TX and all of the homes that were built on stilts. THEY ARE GONE.

"Who wants to spend $500 that you weren't spending before?" said Naudus, whose family owns a printing company in Island Park.

Who's dumb enough to live so close to the water that any decent storm can wash away a house and kill you? I'd love to know who works the brains of some people. It may be pretty and cool to live on the water, but think of the risks. You want to live near water, you pay.

Historical Storm data shows that storm surge can be pushed up as high north as sunrise highway, more realistic is probably merrick road depending on where you live. So can it happen, yes, will it happen...eventually.

Now, with that said, my parents live on the north shore, walking distance it has to be 3 miles to the north shore beaches which as we know there are bluffs in some areas...my parents old insurance company after like 35 years told them they were being dropped for being in a flood zone. It was a company based in Mass. and apparently they looked at a map with no concept of the north shore, at least where my parents are, being high enough that if it did flood, it would have to be the end of the world.

They did find insurance through soemone else without the flood zone classification.

But south shore? very low lying, just a matter of time if you are south of merrick road/montauk highway
