What about westbury liquors at costco? You guys are the worst. I'll bet they beat all these places on price. Do you do ANY research before you write an article? Staff cutbacks shouldn't mean horrible reporting too.

Nope. They don't carry Medici Ermete Malvasia Frizzante 'Daphne' and Medici Ermete Lambrusco Secco 'Solo'.

If you want a great tasting cheap champagne try Cooks, it has a dry crisp taste and it is CHEAP, it taste better than some very expensive french and italian champagne's.
I can afford to buy better but this has become a family toasting favorite.. Try It You Will Like It.. Happy New Year...

When on the North Shore I strongly encourage all to stop in Northport at the Wine Cellar on Main Street. Not only can you buy sparkeling wine in their retail area you can experience a tasting in their bar area. And a sommelier is always on hand. A great place for boutiques bottles.

I don't know about you, but to me, costco is not a place that I go for expertise, or intersting frugal choices....supporting local businesses and knowledgeable owners is MY style in these economic times, not blindly buying by price from huge bulk corporations.

I make my own, dudes. Once you've had a sparkling rosemary mead or a sparkling strawberry ginger mead you won't go back to that plain ol' grape stuff. I took a national blue ribbon for my vanilla/ginger in 2006.

As for it being real hard to get beluga caviar, well, hey don't kill the whales already, eh? Celebrate a bit more greenly for the coming year! It's really sad when the only way you can get the filthy rich to pay attention to what's wrong with the planet is when they're forced to notice it's oh so hard to get whale caviar this year... sigh.

Westbury liquors is not affiliated with Costco. They are just located next door and copy the marketing. They do have the best prices by far but, limited selection. I like Botttles and Cases on East Main Street in Huntington as well. Also great prices, a litle better selection that next to Costco and very good staff. As an aside good to see that Newsday still thinks people are interested in buluga cavier.

OK Valkkyrie - you may make your own sparkly whatever and think you're really clever, but caviar (even beluga) doesn't come from WHALES - mostly b/c they're MAMMALS! WOW!

Beluga caviar is caviar consisting of the roe (or eggs) of the Beluga sturgeon found primarily in the Caspian Sea.

What kind of Long Island based newspaper is this? You ARE aware there are almost a half dozen wineries on the eastern end of Long Island that would be HAPPY to sell you a bottle of sparkling wine made in the traditional Methode Champenoise! If you're going to recommend non-French alternatives, THINK LOCAL!!

Thank you for pointing out that westbury liquors is not affiliated with costco. Jacks, I would never encourage anyone not to support local businesses, however the limited choices presented in the srticle are narrow and troubling. You don't go to costco for "intersting frugal choices?" You don't know what you are missing. Costco is a first class store with top rate customer service and something that local businesses should be modeling themselves after.
