Just watch it Met Ed has another way to rip you off. On your bill they are charging you $2.65 for a smart meter fee. I figured if Met Ed would steal $2.50 a month for a year from 100,000 people They would be stealing $4,200,000 a year. I just wonder how many people that work for Met Ed will line their pockets. Those crooks are actually over billing someone I know. They move out of a full sized home to a trailer and they are getting ripped off. How could a small trailer cost more in electric then a home that had a 2 car garage 2 floors with a full basement and attic. The electric companies are just crooks.

Please hold back a few volts of economy electricity for those on Death Row. The crimes they committed should be covered under a grandfather clause in the rate raise.

What are you talking about? Deregulation and the free market are the domain of the republicans, at least to hear Fox News tell it. You sound like a republican so you should be _thrilled_ that the electric companies are being deregulated. If you want to live by the free market, you have to be prepared to die by the free market.

And what does Obama have to do with PA electric rate caps being removed? The article said this process was put in place 15 years ago. Are you saying Obama is responsible for this?

Interesting that natural gas supply prices dropped by about 75% in the last couple years, but my natural gas bill dropped maybe 20% at best, living in the same house, with the same furnace. They are the true crooks.

Be sure to thank all your state legislators for raising your electricity rates oh and btw shouldn't we start driving electric cars? That should help make them even bigger profits. Poor utilities are so underpaid they can only return 8-10% profit. Boo hoo!

Like a dog in a cage ready to snap. Thereís only so much society will put up with. wait until people fall behind on bills and shutoffs start. They send out there cronyís to shut down peoples utilities and theyíll be in the line of fire. Just another step to civil unrest.

I think everyone is missing who is really to blame, and that is US. We are the ones that insist on driving around in our gas-hog SUVís a mile down the road to the gym so we can pay to exercise. This area, York in particular, has almost non-existent reliable public transportation. Canít drill there for oil because it might hurt a bug. Canít mine there because we might displace a mole. Our own companies are not allowed to do off-shore drilling miles out to sea, because of government interference, but it allows foreign countries to drill in those spots. And then we whine because WE have to pay higher prices for gas. Canít build new refineries because , or just because, but we allow box store after box store to eat up all that precious open land that we wanted to protect. Wake up people, because we will be paying over $5.00 and gallon or more for gas. It is coming and in the not to distant future. Our own government is killing our whole way of life and we are allowing it to happen. May the USA Rest in Peace because we are fast becoming a 3rd world country..

RIGHT ON! Programmed through TV and internet. America is to GO BIG with big homes, big cars, big spending. we are all wasteful, me, you and everyone. The Amish people have bin doing the same thing since there existence and we laugh at them and call them out of touch. The government planted these sinful seeds in our society and we ate it all up, now the government is choking society with that filthy dollar. We are all caged dogs but like anything ells there are the week. BE STRONG AND HAVE THE FIRE INSIDE OF YOU FOR YOUR FAMILY AND FOR WHATS TO COME!

There is a bit of insulation between raw commodity prices and utility rates - natural gas prices spiked sharply a couple years ago, but then went down. I'm willing to bet that your rates didn't increase by nearly as much as the commodity price did, so there is much less room for it to come down.

I'm not at all inclined to defend the oil/electric companies too much, but you do have to keep in mind that they supply a commodity that fluctuates widely in value for a lot of reasons. It's not ALL their fault.

I actually think electric deregulation may turn out to be a good thing, although I hated it last year when it took effect in the Allentown area. The initial rate increase has been greatly tempered by subsequent drops in cost since then. There are several companies serving our area that are functioning in a way that is keeping prices competitive because of competition.

One big piece of advice from someone who's been through this for a year...DO NOT sign up for your first time with any company that requires a committment for a year (or even worse, longer). Different companies come into the area gradually over time, and may be better alternatives. You don't want to be locked in anywhere while the market is sorting itself out.

hmm.. interesting discussion on electric rates. I see it may be as MUCH as .15/Kwh! Let's see, we had a 9 cent drop a couple months back. Whew! what a relief, we dropped from 49cent/kwh to 40! My PG&E (that's the ONLY supplier here) bill averages $750/month summer ($1300 in '09),$350/month winter. Yep, air con is expensive. Oh, but in the winter I average $450/month for propane so, you wanna talk about screwed? You guys got it too good. One reason we're looking to un-surfer and go down coats (you have down coats right?) Man, what I could do with 1990's California energy rates... yowzah!- Oh, that probably means y'all will get the 30-40 cent stuff by 2015. Sorry.

just read patriots post. no worries dude. USA will never be a 3rd world country. 2nd maybe after China buys everything. But you're right, it's the greedy americans that will sell to whoever has the most money. I remember way back we refused to sell our house to a broker that wanted to rent it out. We ended up getting a little less by standing by the principal that a "family" have the house. Yeah, that was pre-1980's greed. Never happen today.
