I hate to see so many vacant buildings. Fast Lane/Fuel Zone. Next to Twin. Dr. Hill's old office. Don's TV service. One shopping center used for a church. Old sign building. Rob's auto sales is empty. Pizza Palace. Sad. Seems like the third lane hurt the street. Estill Ice is gone. I remember the 1990s when Fast Lane, IGA, KFC, Convenient-Redi Mart, etc. I remember 3 service stations on Rio Calle. Irvine outlet may be vacant. This road is a shadow of its former self.

Just ask nivra and joe to go get on thier knees for the big Whigs at city hall and they may just let it happen one more time.

The third lane did nothing to hurt River Drive.. It was intolerant people in City hall in the early 2000-2002 that began a crusade of having businesses put up no parking after hours signs and then instructing the police at the time to run anyone off during the evening into the night time from River Drive.. It was a complete abuse of power but unfortunately people simply complied with the demands and here we are today.. It can change.. Question is are people willing to try again?

Apparently not, where have subsequent "RRD's" been? After the first one, everyone was all "Let's have another one!" and "We can do this anytime we want!!" and guess what? It flopped. There hasn't been one and there likely will never be another.

I've read some comments that "It's stupid" and that "My kids don't need to be out there having fun with other kids". Yet, these same people are the ones who were out there having fun.

There will not be a RRD orchestrated by any "regular joe" around here because no one has the pull to walk in the courthouse and get it done. Then, there's all of the overzealous business owners who cry to the police because someone is parked in ther parking lot.

The businessowners in this town need to get thier heads out fo thier butt, get down off thier high horse, and let this town thrive.

And then, you have your wonderful Irvine police who will ALWAYS argue against it. Why? Because they actually have to get off thier butt and go patrol the street to make sure everyone is law-abiding. Good ol' Adrian is perfectly happy sitting in his cruiser with his thumb stuck up his butt. If it means more work for them, of course they'l complain.

Long story short, there likely won't be another RRD. Only Nivra and Joe blow Crawford will be able to beg hard enough to allow another one.

I used to have the same feelings against the IPD as you.. However I know all the officers we have in Irvine now and I can factually tell you that they will leave you alone unless you are indeed acting inappropriately. This means spinning tires, speeding, throwing trash in a parking lot, having your sterio up so loud that it bothers neighbors down the road. I drive river drive all the time, I park at meades all the time I haven't been ran off.. There is nothing keeping people but themselves from cruising and socializing again on River Drive.. But yes ultimately if businesses want to thrive again they will need to lift their embargo on parking after hours.. Maybe be proactive and set garbage cans out for people to put trash in.
