It is pathetic to see so many vacant buildings. Here is my analysis of the situation:
1. Lack of business sense.
2. Poor customer service.
3. Failure to use facebook and other free sites to market their businesses.
4. Lack of through traffic.
5. Lack of parking.
6. Difficulty to get into the business.blind spots etc..
7. Lack of local law enforcemnts leads to thieves making the cost of security equipment too expensive.

This county has a culture that has been unfriendly to much competition and a culture that has been afraid of anything new. This not only spans to affect businesses but affect tourism and recreation. People complain about the lack of Law Enforcement but in the same breath deny the opportunity to fund such needs. Sure we have plenty of restaurants in Estill County but unless that restaurant is ran by a corporation or its chinese or mexican, then they serve pretty much the same food which I suspect come from the same sources.. People fear progress because they have had it hammered into their heads by religion that progress means farm land destroyed and strip clubs and tattoo joints and Bars lining up 52 with neon lights.. Its that fear that they would lose this "small town" feel that keeps people frozen with fear to allow change to take place.

Honestly now, do you think Estill Co. is the only place with problems?

I hear that corner market at South Irvine is open again. Wonder what the plans are there. Anyone know? At least its opening, not closing.

It would actually be more accurate to describe the business failure problem to be more of a problem for the city of Irvine. Such as restaurants.. Just in the last 6 months Irvine has lost the Mexican joint, Pizza Palace, and the Lunchbox.. Leaving only the Twin as the only restaurant left in the city limits of Irvine.. Even Ravenna has Three. I challenge anyone to find another county where most of the businesses and restaurants lay outside the county seat..

Dustin Stevenson's photography place is now vacant. I am so sick of for sale and lease signs across town. Something is wrong.

Virg, that is true. These cave men fear progress. They don't understand that much of the land here is either flood proned or too steep, so there will be plenty of open space. But I hate to see burned out lots, vacant lots, etc. Look at Fuel Zone lot on River Drive. Gas pumps still there. A nice food mart could provide jobs and service. The Irvine city council needs to get off of their job killing ways.
