When is the next one?

Probably next year. I'm pretty sure Nivra and Joe Crawford had to get down on thier knees and beg the courthouse and all the "local businesses" to allow it to happen one time this year.

It's really sad that all these local businesses preach "buy local", "support us", etc, etc. I'd be willing to bet, that single night of the original RRD, was one of thier single most profitable nights in 20 years. When you run off your customers, you run off your profits.

Nevertheless, don't look for another RRD until next year. The higher-ups won't let it happen. I don't see why everyone can't go out and do it on thier own. Nivra, Crawford and all the other kiss-butts lit the fire, the hard work is done. Everyone just needs to show up and cruise and hang out, there isn't a whole lot anyone can do about stopping it unless everyone is raising hell and being stupid, which we have proven is quite possible.

The point is that most everyone outgrew the whole "Sitting around in town doing nothing" sort of thing. It's just a fact. Doing it once a year or so is feasible. But you're talking about a large group of people who are mothers and fathers now. They just feel more obligated to stay at home with their kids than sit around on their car hoods every weekend. I don't blame the businesses for the older group no longer coming around. Did it stop current and future generations from hanging out on river drive before and after school? Of course. But the older group isn't afraid of any of those people. They're just at a different stage in life and would rather be at home most of the time.

They would rather be at home, yet they complain there's nothing to do in this town.

They complain there's nothing for thier kids to do, nothing for them to do as a family. Why do you think they sit around at home?

From my seat, it looks like there were hundreds of families that had fun "getting out" and experiencing River Drive.

It was a nostalgia thing. Did everyone forget what all we used to do back in the day on River drive??? Hardly a family oriented activity. The way this was put on, yes it worked for families. But the "old days" of River Drive just don't work as family activities and having a small scale festival every weekend just wouldn't work.

It worked for any generation at least until 2002 when City Hall coerced IPD into running people off from River Drive after hours and some of the no longer employed officers took great joy in complying with the demands of City Hall.

You would really prefer that your child squirrel themselves away at home on a cell or computer intead of getting out and experiencing the real world? That just makes them turn into "adults" that have no social or coping skills! In other words, they never really grow up. Have fun supporting them forever! Then who will support them when you're gone? That kind of mentality is crippling our society.

Hey," Wonder" life is about choices. I am glad your son is doing well, but from what I hear on the news drugs are everywhere. You can't go blaming River Drive or any other town if people make bad choices. If you think drugs are not right around the corner from your son in California then I say you are wrong. And everyone on River Drive is not a loser. There are quite a few successful folks in Irvine, and it is due to the choices they made.

I know lots of people that spent much of their youth cruising River Drive and sliding around the 'Wam. None of them are druggies or alcoholics. They're all fine upstanding working men and women. Druggies and alcoholics spend their money on their various vices, not on gas for cruising. You're trying to paint an entire group of people with the dirty little brush you've invented inside your head to make yourself feel better about your sad lonely isolated life. I'm calling BS on your load of BS. Maybe your kid keeps moving further and further away... to escape from you!

I didn't get pregnant on river drive stupid I was 21 when I got pregnant and for your information my son is in Law School and I have never had to support him he grew up to be a very intelligent person and yes a lot of it is because he spent most of his time on computers and reading! He has experienced more of the world than any of the people that are from here! He has lived in Nashville and Chicago and is now in California so I am very glad he stayed away from River drive and all of its losers!
sounds like he can't find a place to live that will have him.maybe
they don't want another lawyer

I didnot say that there wasn't drugs in California actually where he lives you can smoke pot anyplace you want to. He is offered a joint everyday even on the bus but you see he is a smart kid and knows pot just burns up your brain cells so he says no! I am saying most of the people I grew up with that hung out on river drive were druggies and alcoholics and they still are. I never did drugs but me and my friends did drink a lot all we had to do was go to the bootleggers and we rode up and down river drive drinking with our music turned up and half the time someone was starting fights with someone. So if that is what you want your child to do then go ahead and let them ,I am just glad that mine didn't!
Seems you made the wrong choice to hang with drunks, and became one yourself, come on now look in the mirror and you will know who is to blame. You could have went to the library, after school activities helped around the home, chores but that is what you chose.

When I was in my 20's I used to live out of Irvine, but would make the trip to Irvine about every Friday and Saturday night to cruise River Drive, see all the hot cars and wave at friends. Finding a parking spot at the Wig Wam was the ultimate prize. The first warm weekend in the spring was awesome, a trail of cars up and down River Drive, with music and loud mufflers. I remember some of the people and they are still around now (just a little older) I don't know of drugs or fights back then, but it was always fun to hook up and get to spend time with a nice Estill County fellow, and I had my favorite fellow that I liked to flirt with. It was just fun at the time. No computer, electronic games, and gas was cheap back then. Things have changed. Liability insurance on businesses is so high the business owners can't afford to let people park on their premises any more, along with people not cleaning up their trash. Times change, and things change. I live here now in Irvine, love the small town atmosphere, and really enjoyed the River Drive event. I hope they do it again next summer, or when the weather warms up. Thanks for the good time .... to whomever sponsored this event.
